I use the "StraightTalk" service, which I've been told by the company uses Verizon's towers. I get absolutely no reception anywhere in the Milford / Shohola / Honesdale area, or anywhere in between. I can't even make or receive text messages until I get close to the Scranton area. I contacted the company about the issue via email, and they assured me that I am completely covered, while I stare at my phone's little red 'no signal' sign. They said I would have to have a phone with a "SIM" card, but I don't know if that's the issue or not.

On rt.739 all the way to Rt.84 is towers owned by Cellular One of Northeast PA. They told us on the phone they only have equipment on their towers for digital voice, no data, no EDGE, No EV-DO, no HSDPA, They're pretty much stuck in the stone age. And the township, Milford, I believe is fighting all the cell carriers that want to put up towers. So when I smack into a deer or a tree, and I cant make a call to 911, I guess I can thank the tree huggers that dont want another cell tower in their backyard. Come on people, and you wonder why city slickers hate these "backwoods areas". The world is progressing around you. You cant keep your bears and trees forever. Sell you camper and leave. City slickers are coming and were taking over. Good bye gophers and chipmunks. And for gods sake someone force the dingmans bridge people get EZ-Pass. Also if you want to chit chat with them, go park, get out and walk back. Dont do it when I am behind you waiting to get home. Talk on your time, not mine. Thank you.

Have learned from experience, in this area you must have a Tri-Mode phone. At home and in many local areas, we are in Extended Network and not in Verizon Wireless Network so we cannot access data or update on cells or smartphones... but can still place and receive calls with total clarity. Cannot say same for Sprint, Nextel, Cingular or TMobile... either terrible service or no service at all. We switch over to VZW network right down the road so for us it's been a minor inconvenience... we can get our voicemail and email on our land lines and home pcs. Have traveled down to Delaware and up to Plattsburgh NY with total service. Only in very remote areas was there a problem. Have even been able to stay on while going over Greenville Mtn. Do drop calls in certain areas because of network changes (like near Cummins Hill on I84). We have found VZW to be the best for us.

I get full signal strength, but the display on the phone always says "Extended Network" and voice mails, txt msgs, and picture msgs, only appear on the phone when I get back to an area where the phones display shows "Verizon Wireless" on the display again.
