Switched from Cingular to Verizon in Fall of 2006 due to poor reception on Cingular. For first two months, had good reception on Verizon. Since then, 1 or 2 bars at best and constant dropped calls. Researching other carriers for better signal strength in this dead zone.

Coverage around Portsmouth is good.

Verizon works great up and down East Main in Portsmouth as well as the rest of Aquidneck Island.

Reception is poor to none on the north end of West Main Rd. in Portsmouth. This has been a long time problem and Nextel does not seem to care. Aquidneck Island is small and should not be hard to fix these dead spots!

Reception in RI and MA with T-Mobile overall is great. The eastern part of Aquidneck Island is marginal, and very spotty in my house. I have held a good signal from Newport to Buffalo, NY, and I've read that my phone is not the best for reception. I anticipate getting even better reception with a newer phone.

I've had a i90, i95 and now the i860 and reception is stil poor. Calls constantly dropped. So tough to get a signal.

Nextel seems to have good coverage throughout most of RI and SE Mass but I always have a problem from the 24S area in Tiverton until almost Middletown. There is no signal at all on Rt. 114 south in Portsmouth for over 2 miles. I cannot understand why the area is so dead. I read an earlier post from someone who said that Nextel is installing a new tower in Portsmouth in early 2005. I hope that is the case because the service is awful.

Verizon is great on Aquidneck Island and throughout RI and SE Mass. Never without service.

The reception from the Sakonnet River Bridge on Rt. 24 all the way into Portsmouth on Rt. 114 is horrible. I have notified Nextel about 8 times and was finally told that a new tower will be installed in early 2005. Nextel needs more towers in southern RI.
