Closest ATT Cell is in an adjoining town on the other side of a ridge which makes up the Mount Pleasant area of Providence. Often had to go outside to complete a call. Reception improves as I go up the hill... .. Sprint (otoh) has two local cell sites in the area, 300 yards and the other 1 / 4 mile. ATT drops calls, Sprint gives me 5 bars all the time; 3 in my basement!

Have not had a dropped call in this area. They must have new towers around here because all the bars are up on my phone. Customer service I must say was pretty bad when they were Cingular but since they switched over to AT&T their customer service has somewhat improved.

Perfect reception haven't had a problem yet in the surrounding Providence Area. However on route 146 North there is a dead spot near the 146A / 146North Worcester split.

The coverage is one minute wonderful, but then it dissapears for 5-10 mins. It seems that on Cingular on the east side of providence (and on the west side to an extent), I keep being bounced around to different systems, some better than others. In my house I sometimes have good coverage (3 bars) but usually have none. At work it varies from no coverage to full coverage, with no known modifiable factors on my part

Cingular has towers in RI, plus allows users to roam for free on ATT towers, assuming of course you are using a GSM phone. Strong signal availability in most of the state.

Reception good most of the time, most of the places. Calls are dropped rarely. At home (1 mile north up hope) reception is spotty, but seems to be improving in last month.

The reception in most areas of North Providence is awful. But in the Marieville section of town. Most of the time I just leave my phone off. What a waste of money.

Sometimes I'll have good reception, and then out of no where the call will drop. 98% of the time I cannot receive Direct Connect either. My husband has a Sprint Sanyo with Nextel Direct Connect and it has worse reception than my phone.

I joined Nextel a few years ago because my mother had the phone for work. What a mistake that was. I've had nothing but horrible horrible reception everywhere I go. I've called and complained on more than one occassion, had the phone and / or parts of the phone replaced about seven times and they've even shut off my cell phone on mistake... TWICE! Besides service, they are way too expensive and the phones break all the time. My one suggestion - stay away from Nextel!
