Quote: Alltel works pretty well. The only problem is that there are a lot of trees in my neighborhood and that tower at the intersection I described is only 1.5 Miles away and I get zero bars in my house and one bar outside. :Unquote. This is the actual location of the that rating. (yes I am the same person who posted it) and Alltel just bought out Western Wireless (The CDMA division of Cellular One) and then today I upgraded my phone's firmware and it gets two bars there instead of one before. I sure hope it stays that way.

No reception at all, and they won't let me out of my contract even though we are military and the coverage sucks here!

Reception on Lady's Island is terrible. I've never had a problem with AT&T until I moved here and I refuse to get rid of them. I've had them when they were originally AT&T and then changed to Cingular and then back to AT&T... Beaufort is temporary, but for the rest of the country it works the best, I just wish since this is a military town they would do a better job at getting us some 3G service along with more bars.

AT&T is so horrible here.. Even being next to an area with a tower, it drops signal. Ladys island, St. Helena, everywhere is spotty. Little to no signal unless in middle of Beaufort. 3G? You can hang that up. It's not phone either, picks up and handles fine all over Georgia where I originally got the phone. If you live here, don't bother with them, get Verizon.

It seems that good reception with an AT&T phone in the Beaufort area is hard to come by. My phone reception on ladies island is nil. My phone reception on the bases is very poor if not nil, and it is worse inside. My phone reception in my own home is poor. Occasionally I see up to three bars in town, but that isnt very often. AT&T coverage in this area is VERY BAD!

I cannot use this service at work or home without first searching for a bar or 2. Inside a bldg forget about it. At BestBuy looking at the AT&T phones I get... ... you guessed it no bars. Summing it all up standing motionless with no wind I get 1 to 5 bars in some places, if I move my head, talk, or fart signal is dropped. On a positive note I believe AT&T is adding towers in Savannah, and every other place other than here. ps. I moved from TMobile, and service was just as good. Hmmm maybe I'll try Verizon next... ...

Cingular is the worst phone company I've been with. There is no reception in the barracks, inside or out, and just to use my phone I have to go to the PX. The Razr is by far the worst but most expensive phone I've ever had. I thought it was supposed to be one of the best. I drop all my calls, even when I'm out in town, and the battery has a life of maybe two-thirds of the day.

While GSM is all 5 bars downtown, I luckily can switch to TDMA with my GAIT phone for indoor service in my apartment. Away from windows, it tends to drop GSM calls. Outside on Ribaut it is 3 of 5 bars, and quirkily drops on occasion. They recently included hwy 17 / 21 to charleston, which was previously roaming. Pretty good for me!

Since Nextel combined with sprint, things have changed. Especially now that they have these new hybrid phones. Customer service has dramatically improved too from what I expeirenced almost 3 years ago. On the air station, I get 4-5 bars and even on the van pad inside a big metal box where I work, I get a solid 2 bars. Just fired Alltel after a month and a half. I heard good things about them but I was not impressed, with the coverage or their customer service. Cingular / AT&T was ok, but nothing compared to the current sprint / nextel. Even on Lady's Island, I get a solid 2-3 bars, sometimes 4, even DEEP into Sams Point Rd, where Alltel is lucky to have 1-2 bars.

In most places I get one or two bars. There are a few places on base where there are power lines where I get no signal and drop calls. Also inside any buildings I have no service. Rarely have I been able to talk for more than 5 min and the call wasnt dropped in this area.

Sprint, by far, has the best reception I've had in 14 years at this locale. Fired Alltel, T-Mobile, Nextel. Now that Sprint merged with Nextel and dropped residential, the billing is the worst. Got to watch my bill like a hawk.

No cell phone works good on base, but once you get out into town this phone has GREAT reception. VERY pleased. And the great thing is that if you do roam while your on base you get fairly good reception, even inside the house.

Had the mytouch3g for about a year now, I had 3g for about one week and then it went away and I haven't had it seance. They need to put a tower in Beaufort so we get 3g and 4g. I would rather go with Verizon.. so much better.

Just switched from Sprint to T-Mobile because of billing issues. Every month my bill was wrong and I had to call in to customer service to get it fixed. Nothing really wrong with Spring coverage, except on base in certain areas, but billing is HORRIBLE. So now I'm with T-Mobile and while customer service is OUTSTANDING, service sucks. I have a wi-fi phone, so I'm able to pick up my wireless signal from my router at home and anywhere else there may be a wireless signal. However, my daughter gets limited reception at Ladys Island Middle, service on base isn't good and out in town it's hit or miss, depending on where you are. Now, I'm not so sure I should have left Sprint. Was thinking about Alltel, but after reading reviews here, I've changed my mind.
