I still have the 864 area code and get good reception. We moved to this area from the upstate and didn't see the need to change area code.

I got decent reception until about 2 months ago. Same problem happened in the past with both Verizon and now with Alltel - it was a bad cell in the tower. There are 3 towers in my area. I actually got to speak to an intelligent rep in the Home Office last week and he sent me a map showing he coverage in my area. Seems I am now on the FRINGE of Alltel's service. I can use my phone with 5 bars in almost any place except my home. I have to go outside and it still has me moving like an animated antenna to keep the call from disconnecting. I have a friend also on the Alltel service and their phone has no signal at my home. I guess I'm lucky to have 1 or 2 bars most of the time when sitting on my porch, compared to 0-1 depending where I am when inside the home. The only answer seems to be: purchase Alltel's new wireless booster for $299.99 It seems to me that since I was getting decent service and now they have me on Fringe Service that they should provide the booster FREE of CHARGE. It's kind of amazing too that the map says there's no EVDO service in my area, but the icon is lite-up on my phone. It took Alltel 4 months last time to find the bad cell in the tower. Maybe they decided not to replace it and to cut back the area of service - thereby putting me into their Fringe Area. Cost vs Customer?

I've had Alltel for a while and they do a good job in the area. There's nowhere in the area that I'm without signal and I would recommend them. No dropped calls or problem areas. Interstate is also covered fine because I travel home a lot being a student. Indoor coverage seems very good.

Reception indoors varies from 2 to 3 bars, even next to computer. Outside the building, reception is at 4 bars. I find no place in the greater Charleston area where there is a problem. Be sure to "upgrade" the codes in your phone every so often, and certainly BEFORE leaving your local area. This can be the source of unnecessary connection problems when travelling. Your cell phone company can tell you how to do this automatically by dialing a "*" number.

Reception in my house varies between zero and 1 bar. Often have to stand by window near southern side of the house to get any reception. The kids often go outside to try to get better reception. 3 / 4 of a mile north I get no reception at all in my mother-in-laws house and brother's house in MacLaura Hall Subdivision. 3 / 4 miles west / northwest get no reception in my other brother's house. Truly hard to understand how an area so densely populated could have such awful coverage. I am switching to Verizon because my neice's friend visited here with her and had good reception at all of the above locations. Keeping my fingers crossed! Thank God for the 30 day trial period!

Had an accident and needed to call for assistance. I've had little or no service at my home. Later I went to AT&T store and they said the reception is good in my location, and to go to the Apple Store to make sure my phone is okay. I know my phone is okay, because as soon as I drive out of my neighborhood it works fine. After I prove to them that my phone is okay by wasting my time at the Apple Store, they said my options were to turn in my phone or buy a cell phone signal booster. They will be happy to sell me one for $149.00 with $100.00 rebate and $20.00 per month. My husband an I already pay $145.00 per month for lousy reception. Does that seem right? What about customer satisfaction?

I have had both Sun Com and Cingular and the reception is bad to say the least. There is a major hospital and a university two blocks from were I live and with all the business around US 78 and I-26 you would think the reception would be better?

Reception on The Citadel's campus is very poor. There are a few patches where low reception might be available, but otherwise you cannot make or receive calls from most areas on campus.

Suncom sucks. Can't get reception in my home but, my brother, who is with Cingular gets great reception-with the same phone! Suncom tech support admits that their towers are using only a 900Mhz signal not the higher frequency modes of Cingular. Also false advertising on Suncoms part because they sell tri-mode phones but, it's a waste of money if your towers can't work in the higher ranges. And good luck getting out of your conract.
