Consistantly, handset only has 2 bars of sevice. However, service is great.very few dropped calls unless downtown Charleston. If on James Island or Beach. Sprint would definateley be a good choice. Also there is a store with great customer care right on Folly.

In the tri-county area, the reception is very good. Nextel gets as good as any of the other carriers. They have more rugged equipment also. Go Nextel!

I've had Alltel for a while and they do a good job in the area. There's nowhere in the area that I'm without signal and I would recommend them. No dropped calls or problem areas. Interstate is also covered fine because I travel home a lot being a student. Indoor coverage seems very good.

when we first moved here from virginia back in 2004 I had horrible reception. I had to go out on my porch to hear and then sometimes it still dropped my calls. for about a year now I have excellant reception inside and outside. Can even talk by my computer and people still hear me like I was on a land line phone

We chose Verizion when we first moved here because of the good overage 3 years ago. About a year ago we started to experience poor to no reception where we use to get good reception. Over the past 6-8 months we started to experience numerous dropped calls. Now I can not talk to my family longer than 5 minutes without the call being dropped. Many times the phone will beep telling me I have voice mail but the phone never rang. I work in Mt. Pleasant and I experience the same problems. I have also noticed a significant decrease in the quality of voice even with good signal strenght. I will have to ask people to repeat them self all the time.

I have had both Sun Com and Cingular and the reception is bad to say the least. There is a major hospital and a university two blocks from were I live and with all the business around US 78 and I-26 you would think the reception would be better?

Phone reception spotty. Real problem is that phone will leap outta my pocket, and usually hides under a tree or bush. I think the newer " smarter " phones will be even worse.

Reception indoors varies from 2 to 3 bars, even next to computer. Outside the building, reception is at 4 bars. I find no place in the greater Charleston area where there is a problem. Be sure to "upgrade" the codes in your phone every so often, and certainly BEFORE leaving your local area. This can be the source of unnecessary connection problems when travelling. Your cell phone company can tell you how to do this automatically by dialing a "*" number.

Reception on The Citadel's campus is very poor. There are a few patches where low reception might be available, but otherwise you cannot make or receive calls from most areas on campus.

zero to one bar on all phones. dropped calls all the time. Talked with tech support a year ago. They said a new tower was going to be built in a year. The year has come and gone and the tower has been pushed back another year. Changing to Alltel as their tech support said they have no problem with reception on James Island. Look for another post on the results of this switch in 2 months. CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW!

For some reason, since the hurricanes of 2004, my service with Verizon has really really gone downhill. I used to be Verizon's biggest fan, because I travel for a living and found that I had service almost anywhere. Well, now that I am finally "settling down", and don't lan to travel as much, my Verizon phone is starting to make my life more complicated. I have to leave my bedroom, which is directly connected to the front porch, to talk on the phone, and even then the service is spotty. Calls will drop randomly. I can watch the bars move up and down, in and out of service. This causes my battery to run down, and recently I've had to keep my phone plugged into its charger when I'm home. I have loved Verizon, but am thinking that the new Cingular, with lots of phones that have working Bluetooth might be a better deal, even if the service isn't as great all over the country.

Suncom sucks. Can't get reception in my home but, my brother, who is with Cingular gets great reception-with the same phone! Suncom tech support admits that their towers are using only a 900Mhz signal not the higher frequency modes of Cingular. Also false advertising on Suncoms part because they sell tri-mode phones but, it's a waste of money if your towers can't work in the higher ranges. And good luck getting out of your conract.

Inside, there is no reception- the house is almost 300 years old so maybe that has something to do with it. Outside there is approximately 1 bar which holds if you stay completely idle. However, riding in the car or directly walking in the city has almost full reception. It's just strange the two places I am the most, my phone won't work (home and parents' house in West Ashley).
