AT&T
The Cingular / ATT merger has meant absolutely nothing for Cingular customers in SC. Even though AT&T had substantial 800 MHz GSM network and infrastructure here Cingular either didn't buy it or else let SunCom buy it in this state. Cingular apparently will not contract with Suncom so that customers here will have "more bars in more places". Even if you have a dual band phone, it is of no benefit whatsoever if you live in this state. You only have access to the very poorly performing 1.9 GSM Cingular network. It is bad business ethics for Cingular to run those ads for "more bars in more places' in this state because it is clearly misleading to potential customers. Yet on one seems to realize that Cingular is doing this. It simply unbelievable. Wireless customers are victimized because they don't understand the various wireless technologies. I have switched to one of the 800 MHz CDMA providers. The difference in signal strength is unbelievable, and the attitude of customer service is wonderful. I don't see how Cingular gets away with the things it does. I hope more Cingular customers in SC will wake up and realize that all this talk about the meger (more bars in more places) means nothing for customers based in SC. Is is indeed sad when a large wireless provider can get away with this.

I have been a Sprint customer for 6 years, and loved every minute of it (I was even a sales rep for one summer). I bought a house recently and unfortunately receive NO service at all inside the home - and poor service in the street). After jumping through the many hoops with customer / techincal help, they have determined I am in a dead spot between two towers. My friends get perfect service with Verizon, Cingular and Alltel. I am switching to a new provider tomorrow; however, I am quite sad to be leaving Sprint.

Yeah, T-Mobile is not available in our area. But with nationwide roaming free, I got the phone out of aiken, and use it in columbia with no problems except for if someone wants to call you from a landline, it's long distance.

My Motora cell sucks, workmanship is very poor. Sun Com sales department does a good selling these no good phones, even when they are no good. It have been repaired several times already. And each they wants to charge me.

I don't understand it, but I get one or two bars at the most. Perhaps it's because we live in mini-valley, but the reception is horrid. I hadn't planned on getting a landline, but I was forced to. And you don't know how much I hate Bellsouth.

Alltell service has stedily grown worse. Calls continuously have poor reception and have been dropping. Conversely my agent has been attentive to my calls and 2 of the service represenatives in satelite stores have gone out of their way to assit me with other problems that I have experienced.

Nextel has progressively gotten better in the past two years here in South Carolina. This is especially the case in the major cities and along the interstates that link them. I've used their phones for the past five years and they just get better with each model. I especially enjoyed recently trying their new i315 phone that has a feature called, "Direct Talk - in addition to all their usual features (digital walkie-talkie, internet, cellular modem as well as being a very reliable cell phone). With two Nextel phones that have, Direct Talk, I was able to communicate between them reliably outside for at least two miles, even when I was no where near a cellular tower. I read that as they come out with new models this feature will be the norm. It's very useful in large office buildings, shopping malls as well as out in the woods when hiking or between boats off the coast (range between boats was reliably over 5 miles). Overall Nextel has robust products with better coverage than the phones of other family members seem to have in the same locations with their Verizon Wireless phones. Nextel also has excellent customer service. I don't work for Nextel, but their products work 24 / 7 to fill our family needs here in South Carolina.

full signal everywhere on campus and in the entire Columbia metropolitan area. Cingular is the best!

I recently had Verizon which didn't work when I traveled to the beach. I changed to Alltel and purchased a Motorola for myself and a Nokia for my wife. We have been very pleased with the service we recieved from our sales person and the reception on our way to the beach this weekend was great. It dropped out only once on 17 but it was a huge improvement over our last carrier.
