seldom can complete a call without dropping. CANNOT count on someone being able to contact me. Sometimes can check voicemail standing on chair upstairs, sometimes not. Local providers won't let me try a couple of phones to try to find a phone that works without buying them. Can see for 10 to 50 miles in three of four directions (GREAT view) and in fourth am line of sight and 5 miles distant as the cell signal seems not to fly from an annoyingly well lighted brand new tower.

occassional dropped calls frequently picks up tower out of Nebraska, which, of course, requires redially with 1-605-ect-again for a local call. sometimes have to go upstairs and stand on a chair to get out... and I'm on top of the hill. Would like to try a couple other phones and see if work here and other location I am frequently at, but neither local carrier (alltell and verizen) seems willing to do that. Curious whether that's because they know their signal and phones suck, or whether it's just that they flat do not have to exert themselves in the slightest to help out a customer.

I have an older Nokia "candy bar" phone and the reception quality of it has been much better than other phones I have tried, including my work cell, a Motorola W315 and a friend's Razr. I think the newer phones have sacrificed antenna size and reception ability in exchange for smaller, more fashionable sizes. I think there'd be a huge market for a cellphone manufacturer who provided a little bit larger antenna, better reception, and marketed it as such. Phone choices are pretty limited with the local providers (Alltel and Verizon), mostly tiny flip phones. Anywayz, as far as reception, Alltel seems to be a little better than Verizon in most fringe areas, but Verizon is better in a few other fringe areas, just depends on where you spend your time. Alltel seems better on the river, Verizon better up on the flats. My biggest problem is I need a new phone now and doesn't look any good models available. :(
