I have had cell phone service with both Verizon and Cingular and am currently in a contract with cingular. I have had no problems with cingular. I live in the valley area and always have service there, but when I had Verizon I almost always could not get a call out. With my experience with Cingular and Verizon I would definately reccomend cingular, they pick up in many areas where Verizon does not.

I purchased phones for my family that live in TN. I was visiting earlier this year with TDMA nation service, and there was perfect reception. I upgraded my plan to GSM nation and was very happy about giving out the phones to my family. I drove almost 11 hours to visit my family and drop off their new phones as a suprise the 1st week of June. The suprise was on me though. After handing out the phones and powering them up, there was no service. I drove 15 miles one way, then done a turnabout and drove almost 30 miles before getting a reception. I called Cingular and had them look on their intranet about work being done and towers in the area. After spending 1 1/2hours on the phone with them, they informed me that 2 definitely within 5 miles of each side of her address, possibly 3 towers would be upgraded to GSM by the 1st week of September, so I thought ok, I can handle that. As of today, there is still no signal at my mother's house. I have an 850 minute UM2M nation plan and am rolling over an average of 500+ minutes per month. The other downfall to their rollover minutes is that you have to use the monthly minutes completely before any rollover kicks in. I didn't notice this until after having minutes drop, over and above my regular minutes, 12 months later. I also, have yet to find any terms of use stating that this is the case. To heck with the rollover, I just want to get the service I am paying for.

Terrible reception and constantly dropped calls. I have been told lie after lie by ATT customer service reps about coverage in this area. One of the biggest lies was that I needed to keep turning my phone on and off several times a day to let it keep re-registering with the network and that I needed to take the battery out of the phone at least once a day to reset the phone too. One customer service rep's explanation was that tourism was high in Tennessee in the summer, so that could be the cause of bad reception. I'm switching to Verizon.
