All through Alpine and the surrounding towns and areas the coverage is very good. I get a full signal at apartment where I live and at Sull Ross State where I work. No problems anywhere in town or in any residential areas that I've noticed. Seems like all the roads leaving area are covered well too. Alltel is a good choice for this area that seems to be a better value than Cingular in terms of giving minutes for the price, especially with the unlimited calling to any 10 numbers deal they've got.

Just east of El Paso you will overlap Mexico coverage and get a recording in Spanish, but wait a few miles and you will be back in US territory! While there are a few holes between El Paso and Alpine, they are few and overall coverage is very good to excellent (it is interstate hwy after all, then US 90 S). As you head south toward Big Bend National Park, however, coverage decreases to nothing. There is intermittent service in the Park, mainly when you come out of the Basin in Green Gulch and at HQ; just keep an eye on your signal strength bars. Park Service has a new repeater going up on the north side of the Park (Rosillos Mtns.) and hopefully will allow cell antennas on it. Haven't been to Kent in a while, so don't know about coverage there, but I would imagine the Davis Mountains probably block any signal; however, since Kent is on the interstate, I would think a tower on the N side of the Davises will be coming soon (if not being built now!).
