But also NO reception al lot of the time inside my apartment. My phone seems to work around town but as soon as I want to turn into my apt complex it starts gargling and drops the calls. I feel lucky when I am home and a call goes through. I get a lot of messages pop up on my phone like "No Network Coverage" and "Network Busy". My bars will jump around from 3 to 1 to 0. If I'm making a call, its usually shoots to 1 bar to 0 real fast. I have trouble receiving all my calls as well. I want OUT of my contract. I bind myself to them in a contract for 2 years, but ironically they cannot gaurantee service indoors or outdoors. Oh yeah and their customer service dept SUCKS!

Fewest dropped calls - yeah right. It is torture to try to have a decent phone conversation. Don't even think about picking up the phone if you are inside, near hills, or driving. Not to mention the multiple whole network blackouts I've experienced lately. I will never again own a Motorola phone or have a Cingular plan.

Ever since the thunderstorms on May 4th the phone will not ring for incoming calls, or call out consistently. Sprint technichal service says that coverage wasn't affected but reset the tower preference. Other Sprint users that I've talked to in Austin have reported similar problems.

Coverage drops out all over town. Great if your on a freeway overpass... .otherwise I am more than dissapointed. It used to be fantastic with the old AT&T.

Since updating phones, reception in this area is minimal. I can not receive or talk on the phone inside the house without dropping calls. I can go to my patio and if I restart the phone and stay in one place on my patio I may be able to end my call without being dropped. Have called Cingular regarding this problem and there seems to be nothing they are willing to do to asist. I have four phones through Cingular and two on the contract are due to expire this month. Have been looking at changing to T-Mobile or Verizon if Cingular will not take remidy to this situation.

I've had this service for a month now and I'm finding that in this area I don't get more than 3 bars at any one time. I fades out between 2 an 3 bars and I have experienced several call drops. I called Verizon and they said I had a tower 1 / 2 mile from me but it would have to be line of sight for a better reception (imagine that!)

Let's make this easy, I'll tell you where I DO get a call though uninterupted. At home, standing still. That's it. I don't think I cave had a complete call while moving. EVER. "Mobile" phone?

There is a major dead zone located around Manchaca / Shilo and Seminary Ridge / Manassas. Cingular refuses to believe this. Funny thing is, is that the reception was OK the first 30 days we had the phones -then after the cancellation period - no bars. We now have over 9000 roll over minutes, but if we change our plan, we loose all of the minutes. Minutes we've paid for and can't use. Only 6 more months and after reading all these comments, I think we'll go with Verizon.

Have been with ATT for nearly 4 years. Since the ATT / Cingular merger my phone service has declined to the point where it is all but unusable. Dropped calls, no lines available for outgoing calls, messages comming in without the phone ever ringing have all become the norm. Customer service will try to placate you with one time offers of extra minutes but what's the point if you can't use them anyway. I just found out my contract is over and I'm looking to find what service is best in Austin. Anything has to be better then cingular.

Verizon by far has the best coverage and very very good sound clarity, typical to CDMA. Something none of the GSM providers has to offer. I get excellent reception (and not just reception, sound quality as well) pretty much everywhere in Ausitn: downtown, south, all of Mopac, I-35 and Loop 360. Too bad their phones are ancient, they are like 3 years behind in features, compared to the offerings from T-Mobile and Cingular. They even disable Bluetooth on a few rare models that have it...

Cingular totally sucks in Austin! Do not get it unless you want a constant hassle. I live right downtown and I have to stand in my yard to make or answer calls. All around town, it drops calls and Cingular will do nothing to fix it. I am about to switch to T-Mobile because they were rated best by Consumer Reports while Cingular was rated the worst cell company in America. They also have 1500 minutes at $40 per month vs. only 500 with Cingular. Cricket is even better, but they don't have that here yet, it's unlimited minutes for the same price. Cingular is so bad, they are charging me $150 to disconnect even though they admit they have few towers and poor reception in Austin. I'll probably file with the BBB abd FTC, but avoid the hassle and just use another carrier.

Cingular's "Allover Network" apparantly missed a few spots. More Bars? Are you kidding. I typically have 2 bars (sometimes 3) at my house in Canyon Creek. Reception on 2222 is aweful. Verizon was much better.

Solid signal most of the time as far north as Round Rock, but overall signal quality disappointing. Scratchy and sometimes fractured. Much inferior to clear connection of a land line.

Alltel is really spotty around town. It's either excellent or atrocious. I get zero bars in my apartment, and likewise when I'm in a downstairs bar downtown. But otherwise it's usually very good. I have solid service pretty much everywhere.

I've been using the Razr GSM for a little over a week. Reception is consistently three to four bars at home, and is consistently four elsewhere around town, with occasional fives. No dropped calls yet.
