MoPac / FM 2222, Austin, TX 78731 |
Sat Feb 04, 2006 |
1-2 bars of reception at best in this area. Calls drop frequently, and the reception is very crackly. Signal is stronger closer to MoPac, but the further west you go on 2222, the worse it gets - many spots on 2222 have 0 bars. Unfortunately, this is where I live, and if anyone calls my cell when I'm home, the call almost always drops. I get decent reception around the rest of town, but it would be nice if calls didn't drop when I'm at home. Part of why I have a cell phone is so I don't have to give out my home number! NW Austin seems to be a bit of a problem area for many cell phone carriers, here's hoping they'll put in some more towers and improve things.

Third Sprint phone in this area, and it finally gets reception. Two bars ar home, but hardly ever a problem. A motorola, LG, and a Nokia I used before this all didn't recieve or make calls within a mile of my place. Sprint customer service is no better than a big warm pile of crap!

1-2 bars most times. Click to send / receive and it drops to one every time. Miss many calls, drop many calls. Truly sucks. My contract is up in April and Cingular will never see me again. I was a very happy AT&T customer, but life has never been the same since the switch.

I almost never have problems with my Verizon service anywhere that I go to in Austin, which includes north Austin (Parmer and Metric area), campus, and the Westlake area. Westlake area gets a bit spotty because of the hills, but anywhere else, unless I'm in an elevator, very clear, no dropped calls.

Cingular has been great most places I go, except at home where I need it the most. We dropped our land line and went with the Cingular family plan but reception in the house is iffy. We can usually call out and recieve calls but the sound is not clear and we have expeirence dropped calls. I went as far as to get a repeater from Fry's (Wireless extender YX-500-PCS) but it would only work when we were on a digital signal, which was only part of the time. I took it back but I have been thinking about getting a more expensive model that works on the 1900 and 850 signal (PowerMax DA4000SBR $400 on ebay). I am waiting because we heard from a friend that the tower at William Cannon and West Gate is not turned on and that it will be in April 2006. I don't know if that is right or not but I am going to wait till April and see what happens.

Northeast Dr. / Access Rd.Of 290 East Bound, Austin, TX 78723 |

After replacing the Motorola V600 with the black Motorola V3 from Cingular, reception out of the box the reception is 5 bars. I did notice that after several days of heavy usage, the signal would drop down to three bars, and sometimes two bars, but this was remedied by simply turning off the phone, taking out the battery and the sim card and holding the end / power button for approximately 30 seconds and then reinserting the sim card and then the battery and restarting the phone. As for overall performance, the phone itself has withstood several drops as well as some soda being spilled on the phone. These occurrences have not affected the phone or reception at all with the exception of the above mentioned problem. For being a former AT&T Wireless customer that was bought with the merger of AT&T Wireless and Cingular, I was extremely dissatisfied with the performance resultant of that merger since the two seperate networks often clashed for dominancy and I got stuck out in the cold. This has been completely fixed since now I have had very good performance with the new Cingular Network.

I get decent reception while "out and about" in Austin. Reception sucks in my apartment building and I have to go outside to answer or dial out. No reception driving to work on Southwest Parkway. Spotty reception at work (Lake Travis High School) but still useable. Great reception while visiting relatives in Houston.

Livei in Shady Hollow. I travel all over Travis, Hays, Williamson and Bastrop counties. I get good reception in about 95% of Travis and Williamson, about 75% in Hays and Bastrop. I get o-1 bar inside my home. I have to get next to a window to get a call or go outside in certain spots of the yard. Just about everytime I go near a window, very near, I get a missed call message. etc. Who has good reception in Shady Hollow? (Company, phone, etc.)Thanks in advance!

Rollingwood / Bee Caves, Austin, TX 78746 |
Tue Jan 03, 2006 |
I live within 2 blocks of this intersection. My phone doesn't ring and goes straight to voice mail. To talk on the phone I have to walk out into my back yard and stay there until I'm done talking. I checked cell towers and there are none in the area! Take a look for yourself. There are none in Rollingwood or the eastern part of the Westlake Hills area. This is an upscale area with sophisticated, tech saavy, residents who are unable to access service from home. AT&T wasn't any better, nor was their digital service. Let's get some towers up in the area now! How about one of the rooftops at the new retail / office site at Edgewood and Bee Caves Rd? They've already altered the natural landscape there. There's even a Cingular retail site in the complex! I wonder if they have to step outside to talk on their phones...

Fri Dec 30, 2005 |
When you turn off enfield going north on the old part of windsor, you don't lose the call most times but for about a half of mile, you just hear a garbled voice and have to keep saying "hold on". Enfield between Lamar and Mopac is pretty spotty also.

My phone is barely useable anywhere within 10 blocks of this intersection. It is this bad all over the city. I don't even bother trying to make calls on Bee Caves Rd.between 360 and Mopac. This is the worst cell service I have ever had, which is strange because AT&T was the best I have ever had and Cingular acquired AT&T [didn't they?]

signed up with AT&T in 1997 when I moved to oak hill. they advised they had the most towers and best reception. could not use my phone in the house and barely outside. was advised that they were aware of the problem and would fix it. 2005, still cant use my phone consistently in house and outside not much better. drop calls, no service, or lots of buzzing. called and they dont care. terrible customer service. drop around 30-40% of calls. 90% of time cannot use or drop calls southbound at mopac and barton creek mall.... will not resign with Cingular when my contract expires

Bee Caves Rd. / Between MoPac and 360, Austin, TX 78746 |
Mon Dec 26, 2005 |
Calls drop in two locations, about equidistant from one another, on Bee Caves Rd. between MoPac and Loop 360. This was not always the case. Sprint says there is nothing wrong with my phone and it recognizes all the current cell towers. I am so incredibly frustrated with the service. I can't even call to complain about all my dropped calls en route, because my calls to Sprint also drop before I can talk to a humanoid.

Calls are now starting to drop at this intersection - only a few blocks from the Sprint PCS store. Calls did not always drop in this location, but have been dropping for the past 3-4 months. Sprint says there is nothing wrong with my phone, and its software is current in recognition of cell towers.

The worst phone and reception I have ever had. So hard to conduct business when there's an annoying buzz in the background. A lot of dropped calls. Plus I ordered a new Blackberry hoping it would solve my problems, but the idiots at Cingular couldn't activate my new phone. It sat on my desk for 3 1 / 2 weeks before I decided to send it back and look for a new carrier.
