Constant dropped calls and I cannot even call out at times. T-Mobile has the absoloute worst customer service I have ever experienced. If you are planning on living in another city maybe they are not bad, but the infrastructure in Austin is not so good and therefore I would highly persuade you not to go with this organization. Also, if you ever have a problem with billing this organization is the worst experience I have ever had with attempting to rectify the problem. The combination of poor phone service and customer service make this company a complete thumbs down.

I get absolutely no reception in my apartment. My roommate has AT&T and gets ok reception, usually 2 or 3 bars, so I have to use hers when we're at home. This phone has great reception on campus and in Houston, though.

I've been very happy with T-Mobile coverage in and around the city of Austin, but there are a few blatent dead spots they need to fix. 2244 (Bee Caves) near Barton Creek has a spot where the calls always drop. I35 up to Waco has several dead spots and dropped call areas. Forget about using your phone in places like Jonesboro. There is no service.

Looking for a carrier that works in the area of Edgewater off Cuernavaca / Mecca. My Verizon works if I'm not at home, but I am at my home most of the time. Verizon has always been great for me, but I can't get or make calls if I'm home (live and work here). Had really hoped to dump all but the most basic land line but now I have to have all the phone co's. bells and whistles because cell doesn't work at home. Any providers work here in this gulch?

I've just moved here from Washington DC where Verizon is king. Sadly it is Austin's redheaded step-child. I have dropped calls daily. I usually have only 1 bar along S. Congress. At the office, I have to run to a window to try to keep calls from dropping... usually doesn't work. I'm moving to the Lost Creek 78746 area soon and expect things to go downhill quickly based on comments from that area!

Bars are good but can'e hear a thing or be heard from W.Cannon to Slaughter and 1826. What's the deal with 4-5 bar areas that you can't get service?

Why does cell receotion suck so bad in Austin? I don't know anyone with any phone with any carrier that has good reception. Talking on my cell phone is too frustrating. I won't do it unless I have to now. Most of my calls cosist of "What? You'll have to say that again, you're cutting out" repeat three or four times before the call is dropped. I don't understand why. It's Austin, Tx. It's not like I'm in the middle of freaking nowhere. Cell companies, how bout you start taking a little pride in the products and services you offer and step it up.

TDMA works, GSM doesn't... I've tried the store GSM phones (before buying one) in this area for 2years now, every 6-9 months or so.. and still no GSM service. T-Mobile doesn't work in this area either. ATnT (cingular) TDMA and Sprint, however, do.

Most of the time it is completely impossible to have a conversation either inside or outside the house. I thought maybe it was the phone but it works fine most everywhere else in town. Looking at the map its seems like there isn't much coverage in this area from any carrier, especially Tmobile. On the other hand, friends have T-Mobile in the area and it is ok.

What I have found out is that the reception is related to some of the settings on the phone as well as the network selected. For instance, when I got this phone brand new from AT&T Wireless, the signal strength would always be 4-5 bars, no matter where I went. I got a brand new Cingular branded V600 and its reception SUCKED! On the display of this phone, the screen would read only 1 bar at best. Well when Cingular merged with AT&T, I went out and unlocked the Cingular branded phone, Hex editied the Network menu (to unlock the 'Select Network / Available Network' options) and then proceeded to select the network labeled 'Cingular' instead of "Cingular Wireless' because the 'Cingular' network is actually the old AT&T network - just rebranded. Ever since this move, both phones reside only on the 'Cingular' network as opposed to the 'Cingular Wireless' network. Yes I did take both phone and switched them both to "Cingular Wireless' network and the reception went to the trash. I even took some friends phones (3 V551s, 8 V220s, 15 V300s) did the same procedure as mentioned above and ALL OF THEM now enjoy 4-5 bars of signal strength. I personally recommend that uses be very cautious of the Hex editing procedure since without proper backup, you can kill your phone. If you are a Cingular customer, and your network menu has the 'Select Network' or 'Available Netowrk' menus active. then switch over from the 'Cingular Wireless Network' to 'Cingular' network (Formerly AT&T Wireless Network)

Barton Skyway / Mopac, Austin, TX 78746 |
Thu Jul 21, 2005 |
My reception starts to drop as soon as I turn off of Mopac onto Barton Skyway. The parking lot area of my apartment will provide 1 or 2 bars, but I have to stand in certain areas. Walking down the sidewalk will cause a dropped call. Inside the apartment, I'm lucky if the phone will detect any service at all. Since moving to Austin, I've had to subscribe to Vonage to get decent phone service at home.
