I chose this location for my office because I can get 4-5 bars on my phone; internal offices (no view) get less bars, and many offices go down to 0-1 bars depending on which direction you are facing. I travel all over the country - GSM is still very patchy in the US, and I don't get the sense that TMobile are doing much to make this any better. I'm going to "test" Cingular for a month (I'll only lose about $35 doing so) to see how the reception compares in Bellaire, Houston, and the US. Why test Cingular? TMobile is pretty good, but I have to use their WIFI dervice for a reasonable speeed data plan. Cingular, Sprint and Verizon all have faster data plans, and Cingular supports GSM, which is my preference for a number of reasons.

A lot of the reception depends on orientaion... sometimes, while on a call at the house, if I turn my head service drops out, turn back and the call continues. Sometimes service becomes spotty while moving around the city. One time, with a disabled vehicle, I could not get service at Bellaire and the Loop; I assumed it was just too much cell traffic.

Sprint is the worst cell provider in Houston by far. Not only they deliver voice mail sporadically, at best, they will tell stories of how they are expanding in Houston and that reception in your area is going to be great. They are the cheapest among all, but what good does it do if it doesn't work? Even with the phone with a much better than the spec parameters - Sanyo 4900. Other phones hrdly worked at all.
