Sprint is by far the worst data and voice carrier for this area. If you buy a mobile phone "DO NOT BUY SPRINT". The sales person was an idiot, she totally had no idea what the service was like for area and even told me I could get 4G. I cannot use data in almost the entire city of Bryan, but college station is fair. The problem with Sprint is they need another tower on the north-east side of Bryan, that would solve most issues.

The farther you get from campus, the worse AT&T's reception becomes. The network fails constantly and so many of my calls get dropped. That's the price we pay for living in the middle of nowhere.

I've had no problems inside or out. I don't think I've had a dropped call in the year that I've been here.

Even my daughters struggle when they come to my house. Do we even have a tower in Bryan texas????

Austin's Colony (Hwy 6 and Booneville), Bryan, TX 77808 |

I get 4-5 bars at my house (out in Austin's Colony off Hwy. 6 / Bypass and Booneville Rd.) and most areas of TAMU campus. There are a few dead spots I've found in the area, but they aren't in my normal "haunts". The only one that annoys me is out on University Rd on the east side of the Bypass / Hwy6. But, that only interferes will calls occasionally and just about everyone I know (regardless of carrier) complains about that spot. I really like the coverage overall--even when I travel on conferences in Austin, Dallas, Houston, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc. I was one of the few people who can coverage at a conference in Stoney Lake, MI (middle of nowhere) last summer. The people who had Sprint and T-Mobile had nothing. Verizon's signal was about the same as AT&T / Cingular. I don't think that any other carrier beats AT&T for value also. For $45 / month, I get 450 minutes plus rollover with free long-distance and no roaming, as well as 200 text messages (which I've never gone over). I'm going to be upgrading to a smartphone soon, so I'll be testing out there data plan.

Outside, I usually get 1 bar or 2. Inside I get no signal at all. I have a USB Internet Card from Verizon and I rarely get one bar inside. I have to be at at window to use my Internet Card or my cell, but Verizon is pretty reliable when my AT&T Phone is completely dead usually everywhere I go!

I get great reception almost anywhere, I have a plan that lets me roam for free in Texas. Works great out of Texas too, but it is expensive, I have signal in many more places than most of my friends do.

I get signal all over town in GSM mode. Inside a few on-campus buildings I lose signal, but nobody seems to get signal in those places either. Signal is good in my house near the Northgate area. TDMA mode sometimes gets me better signal when i'm inside buildings. Don't buy a Siemens S46. They are very old and don't support the 850 or 1800 GSM bands.
