there is a lake here. what if a emergency arose (child drownig) whoops, no bars or service. this really needs to be addresed. remember, everything is bigger in texas. does this go for the no cellphone coverage area?

Signal is poor. Sometimes have NO signal or one or two bars in roaming at our house but once we get into town (Carthage) Signal is GREAT full bars and not in roaming.

Basically no coverage except if you are near one of the towers actually owned by them. There are only 4 in Panola County that I'm aware of. One is in Carthage, one is about 2 miles west, and the other two are about 4 miles north and south of Carthage. US Hwy. 59 is covered. Cingular has been roaming on them since shortly after the AT&T merger. They had to divest themselves of East Texas as part of their anti-trust requirements when they merged AT&T / Cingular. I just joined Alltel last week and I've been very pleased. They also have unlimited tethered internet at DSL speeds for only $25 additional per month. Cingular / CellularOne has the much slower service at about $60 a month. I don't see Cingular coming back here anytime soon. Too much money to invest. However I have heard talk that Alltel is up for sale, and that all major players (including Cingular) are looking at it. Oh well...
