I switced from Cingular to Verizon on the reccommendation of Consumer Reports that Verizon had the best reception America wide for when I travel to the East and West coasts. That has not been my experience. My reception immediately dropped and I almost coulnd't get reception at all in my Hemphill studio with a cell phone tower right across the street! It's poor in my house also. When I drive around small town areas of Texas in the Panhandle, West Texas and South of FW, the reception is mostly non existant. When driving with friends or realtives in W. TX, they get recption on Sprint even in remote areas. I'd love to know what cell phone works best in Texas and on the coasts.
Verizon gives me 0 bars inside my house, 1-2 in the far corner of the backyard if the weather is favorable. After having such bad to non-existant service for the 2 year contract, I have found that I don't really need a cell phone after all. So I'm cancelling service when the contract ends in December. Free again!
Decent service in this area 3 Bars of 3G / Edge inside the house and outdoors - Much better than previous Verizon wireless coverage in this area with 0 or 1 Bars. The signal switches from 3G to Edge often though, but doesn't really affect voice calls as much as data usage.
My phone alternates between 0, 1, and 2 bars. People will frequently try to call me but the phone won't ring. Maybe 20 minutes later I'll get notification of a voicemail. Even outside the house, it may take several minutes to get a signal. My girlfriend's phone doesn't fare mutch better. If I enable roaming on the phone, frequently when I try to make a call it will say something like "Welcome to America's Roaming Network! Please have your credit card ready to make a call"
I get great service pretty much everywhere I go with Sprint, especially the west side of Fort Worth. I have a high speed data card that works great at home near Camp Bowie. I travel frequently and I'm all around the Fort Worth area. As with any carrier, you will get a dead spot or two, but I'm usually out if it within a quarter mile on the highway. Great service. Highly recommended.
Weak Service at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and surrounding areas. This is the south side of FTW and many of the carriers are not concerned about this area.
What the heck happened to Cingular! Ever since ATT took over my reception went from a constant 4-5 bars to 2! While pulling into my apartments my signal goes dead. I can't receive calls in stores either. Cingular used to be the best, leave it to ATT to screw that up!
