If you get really far out of town, yeah there may not be a signal but Sprint holds a signal quite well in Fredericksburg. They also have a nice high speed data network, and were the first ones to roll such a thing out here. Then again, my phone generally gets great reception wherever I am...

I get good reception even out in the sticks with Verizon, used to be I had sub par reception with Sprint there, but they also work well now as another family member has them. I have no problems and rarely drop a call and when it does its because the Treo is a giant POS.

The iDEN 800 signal, coupled with the excellent reception on the i285 (the i415 is not as good, the i450 I think is somewhere in between) gets you fine coverage until you get into the hilly areas outside of town, where reception comes and goes. This is one of the two 800-band digital networks around here; the other is the dragon-slaying Five Star Wireless (CDMA).

This is former Concho Cellular. I think they have 3 bars even inside my house and great coverage everywhere I've been around town and looked at the phone.
