If you are a Cingular customer and wear your tin foil hat and stand on one foot with the other one raised waist high in front of you, with your left hand up and arm bent at the elbow, and with your right hand down and arm bent at the elbow; you may get one bar... sometimes. This intersection had a church shooting where a deranged individual pulled into the church parking lot and shot and killed two persons, chasing others and shooting at them. He then got into his truck and drove about a hundred yards to this exact intersection where he found two women stopped with their horse trailer and horses from riding, and shot and killed them. Numerous witnesses attempted to call law enforcement using their cell phones but could not get a signal. When the highway patrol and sheriff's department responded they had to borrow a satellite phone because coverage is so poor. The poor quality of phone service demonstrably played a part in people's inability to reach law enforcement to begin with, and it also played a negative role in handicapping law enforcement when they did respond. In my opinion the inferior cell phone coverage may have literally cost lives. While my enmity is directly pointed at Cingular, in fairness nobody else has a tower in range either. It is not like this location is totally out in the boondocks, it is ten minutes drive time to four cell towers - but there are hills and trees that create problems. And according to a guy in the area with a PhD in Electrical Engineering who is also a Ham operator; after looking at the local Cingular tower(s) he says they are using improper antenna design and pointing techniques. When we wrote to Cingular we essentially were blown off. My analysis of the problem is this - The area does not have enough population density for them to really care one way or the other. Phil
