I am unable to hold a conversation at home, I am required to go outside to receive one MAYBE two bars. I have tried to call AT&T multiple times to have someone come out and fix this problem in the area. They have not done anything for me and I am getting ready to move away from this company. They are horrible.

Never get any reception here. Tried newer "3G" phones, usually get 1 bar, sometimes, if the planets are aligned, I can get 2 bars... The ATT customer service is probably the WORST that I have ever experienced... I don't have a contract anymore, but, I have stayed with them because I resist change. However, I only use my phone as a PHONE. Perhaps there are no carriers that remember this... . So Sad!

Poor reception throughout Rice campus, Med Center and now Upper Kirby. I always have to walk out of my house / workplace to receive calls, and reception is patchy at best even outside. Customer Service is pretty lousy as well, and they keep promising a tower in the Med Center "in a month". Lies, AT&T. I'm taking my business to Verizon starting next week.

I work in the Med Center, and my reception has gone from poor to none lately at work AND at home (home is on Bissonnet) - this is incredibly frustrating because the only time I have coverage is when I'm transiting which is maybe twenty minutes a day. Several people I've spoken to with iPhones complain of this problem at the med center. Why won't AT&T give this area more towers?

The reception within The Methodist Hospital is horrible. I'm here for more than half the day (meaning half my life) and I do not have any reception. So I'm constantly missing calls and messages. I've contacted A&T on a monthly basis about this problem and they keep telling me that they are working on it but it's taking some time. It's 2010 almost 2011 and they never thought that they should put a antenna within the hospital or improve the reception within the Medical Center? With the amount of people that work here or patients that come here; you would think that someone in charge would actually have the intelligence to think that putting an antenna there to improve recepition and improve business.

Even when I'm out and about around Houston with 4+ bars I still get dropped 70% of the time. The new option for Verizon as a iPhone carrier will put enormous pressure on Ma Bell to allieviate their issues... hopefully!

I have never had a problem with dropped calls or reception in the Heights or anywhere throughout Houston. My contract is up and I'm considering switching over to T-Mobile, but their monthly rates are just as high as At&t's. In the past, I have had problems with At&t's customer service, but within the past 6 months, there has been considerate improvement. I may just stay with AT&T after all. Looks like they're making an attempt to compete rather just stay afloat with iphone craze. Iphone 3Gs, IMO is way over rated unless you want to surf the web on your phone. Definitely just a toy--not a business tool. I've also used the Samsung Blackjack---had no problems with it either. It's just a very outdated phone and I need to upgrade.

When I'm out in the world, my phone vibrates once and I have a Missed Call At the Medical Center, while people everywhere are using wire-less, AT&T is use-less. I can't wait until 03 / 29 / 10. Then it's bye, bye AT&T. I wonder how Boost does?

This problem started about 3 months ago and has gotten steadily worse. The Apple store switched my phone out today because at least 75% of my calls were dropping. He said that if the new one does the same thing, it is AT&T. Sure enough, I got home with the new phone and five calls dropped right away. If you are thinking of a new iPhone or any other phone with AT&T as your service provider, be careful. The wireless service is unreliable and their customer service is pathetic.

I have had Verizon, and Sprint and Cingular / ATT in this house and Cinglar / ATT has been the best reception not only here but in office buildings in the different "downtows" of Houston as well as on the road. I don't use the internet much on the phone but we like the rollover minutes (are they going away?) and the family plan plus calling between people on this network is unlimited. I remember when Houston Cellular switched to Cingular and its coverages was really bad and had tons of dropped calls. It is much better since then, but now that it is ATT I am sure they will try to tweak the number of consecutive calls on their antennas and service could drop. Hope they don't.

When we moved in 2yrs ago was outstanding signal inside and out. Then in December 2006 they started the tower mergers and it totally sucks. No signal indoors now at all, outside is barely 2 bars and drops calls usualy every 10 minutes. More than a dozen support calls and they have the gall to tell me it due to being too close to the tower of all things, causing an umbrella effect on the treo's. I can see the tower from the porch less than 1 / 2 mile away. Its a joke of an answer from them because I go to other towers and stand right under them and the phone works like a champ. Trying to get them to believe this tower here has issues is like talking to the wall. Its so easy to tell where the towers are loacted from there coverage maps, and drive to them. I've tried now at several and same results. I have a Sprint work phone, works great at same place. Wife got fed up and droped her Cingular for a T-Mobile and that's also doing great. I'll probably drop them also but I love the outlook intergration I got going with the treo.

Works ok (at best) throughout Clear Lake and Houston, just not in our neighborhood, Bay Glen. Why do we need roll over minutes when we can't use the service at home where most of the "long" calls are needed? We have 500 mins on family plan with two phones. We roll over at least 300 every month. What a rip.

Reception is terrible outside a few buildings on Memorial drive. It is apparent that Cingular does not support 1900 MHz very well and uses 850 MHz which in truth is good for rural areas requiring fewer towers. Cingular needs to step up and at least be as good as an average cell phone provider in getting rid of obsolete technology and move to 1900MHz as a standard.

With T-Mobile in the office I get reception, but with Cingular can't get reception in my office except I go outside into the open. The calls even drop, had to redial several times on one conversation you imagine the mess and hassle. Even on the road (Hempstead, Pinemont, Clay / Beltway8) the calls drop I only changed to Cingular because of the roll-over if not T-Mobile service was great. But it look as if am going to re-think.

One more thing, the "reception bar icon" on the phone is a joke. Personally I think it is written in the software on the phone to stay full or very high on idle - for their "more bars in more places." I guess they don't mean more reception. More like false advertising. Right now my phone is showing full reception, but as soon as I call out it will drop to 1 bar and the call will be inaudible.

I can actually look out of my office window and see a tower less than 1000 ft away, but still can't use this phone in the area. I would say the reception would be in between "No Reception" and "Poor". I can call out and receive calls, but only about 5% quality. I have called cingular, but they don't really care. I think GSM has less coverage / quality than my old TDMA.

Other folks (including Cingular customers) don't have any problems with receiving service in our home, so I don't think it's the paint (probably no lead in it anyway). -xebtron

I had Sprint for 3 years and could never get a signal inside my home. In sprint's defense my 3-year old Samsung was probably to blame. Anyway I read online that the 850 GSM phones had better reception inside buildings. I try not to believe everything I read, but I couldn't find any information to the contrary and I was willing to try anything to be able to place a call on my cell phone from inside my house (I know that's a novel idea). With the new phone and service, I now get 5-6 out of 7 bars inside my house. I went to a Lowe's where I was ALWAYS on analog roam as soon as I stepped through the door. With the new phone I had 4 out of 7 bars and placed a call to my house out of sheer excitement. It worked like a charm. I've only had the service for a day so I'll post again after the honeymoon is over...
