I've had all the big carriers... .AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Nextel. Nothing measures up to Verizon. Even in elevators in the Williams Towers, my services is flawless. You get what you pay for, and coming from AT&T, thats horrible service in the Houston Area.

43rd / Shepard, Houston, TX 77018 Thu Apr 07, 2011

Verizon customer for almost 10 years. We've never had more than 2 bars (out of 5) in the house, and normally it's either 1 bar, or no service. We've had Verizon tech people to the house... they say it's just a bad service area, due to lots of trees and other obstructions. But, they continue to take our money, even though we can't make a call from our home. Service around town is usually pretty good.

Poor to sometimes no reception. Verizon acknowledged that my area is marginal and said I have three options: 1. Purchase a cell phone signal booster for the house at $150. 2. Cancel plan with no early termination (I just renewed my contract 2 weeks ago) 3. Do nothing and either deal with it or call forward cell phone to home phone. Not sure what to do because reception is good everywhere else in Houston.

Dairy Ashford / West Park, Houston, TX 77082 Wed Nov 26, 2008

Reception fine until new tower placed just South of Dairy Ashford and Westpark intersection on East side of Dairy Ashford. Reception sporatic enough to keep phone from roaming to better tower but constantly drops calls. Tried 2 different Verizon phones, same thing. Outside of this area seems to work OK.

Dairy Ashford / West Park, Houston, TX 77082 Wed Nov 26, 2008

Reception was fine until a new tower was put up just South of the Dairy Ashford and Westpark intersection on the East side of Dairy Ashford. Now the reception is sporatic enough so that it won't allow the phones to roam an alternate tower but drops any call that connects constantly. Have tried two different Verizon phones with no improvement. Outside of this area the phone seems to work fine.

I have had good recieption in this location ever since I got my phone. My wifa has a Razr [on Verizon] and her signal is good also. Some friends with fancy phones and other providers have even experienced weak and sometimes no signal. Intersting even though there seem to be very few towers close by.

Studewood / Heights / Studewood, Houston, TX 77009 Sat Apr 21, 2007

When I had Cingular, I could never get calls inside my house. Finally, they said that the towers out here in the Heights were not adequate. There was a dispute over a tower at 11th and Studewood some years ago. It is covered with a facade. So nobody wants to put adequate towers in this historical district. I explained this to Cingular and got out of my contract. I went with Verizon and have had no problem since. Evidentially their technology is better or something.

UofH Satellite MD Anderson Library / Satellite,MD Anderson Library, Inside Buildings, Houston, TX 77004 Thu Feb 22, 2007

Overall I believe Verizon has the best network especially at the University of Houston0-main. You know the satellite, underground dining, where most of my friends have no signal (yes ironic name) but I at most 2 bars, which is better than their 0bars. Even in classrooms like the fleming building or the Science Engineering and Research classrooms I get signal. And last but not least, the MD Anderson Library. I get signal in the computer lab. It does at times go in and out, but hey I am getting signal and not T-Mobile or cingular. or Sprint ha ha poor sprint. Not sure about cricket though. I just wish verizon's plans werent so expensive, but hey for signal pretty much anywhere is a good trade off. You get what you pay for.

I've had perfect reception in the Bellaire / Meyerland area for years. Verizon unquestionably has the best reception in Houston. I've been with Verizon for over 8 years now and have never had any major problems, other than the occasional billing quibble which was ultimately my fault. I've tried Cingular and Sprint through my job (they give all employees a cell). Sprint dropped ~10% of my calls in Houston when driving around, especially in the Downtown area. Cingular dropped ~15% of my calls, and had horrible reception from my Meyerland home. If you want great reception in Houston, I recommend Verizon.

Great reception in Medical Center (77030) but poor to non-existent inside my ground-floor apartment. It's fine at my mother's across the driveway--she's on the 2nd floor. Possibly corrugated iron carport roofs are interfering with reception.

Signal will vary from non-existant to 5 bars without reason. Many times it will ring through to voice mail without any indication of an incomming call. There are two towers nearby, it's like the transmitter is going off and on. Most days its impossible to make a business call. Today, however I had a great connection for over 90 minutes 2PM-3:30PM 7 / 7 / 2006 Data card acts the same.

While i'm not sure if Verizon has the best plans... .I really can't complain about anything. The most impressive thing was that I never lost reception during Alison or ANY of our storms last year. I have reception in places I'm told others don't and have been way out in the back roads on my motorcycle and have gotten reception. I do have an occasional dropped call. While i'm thinking of looking at other companies, what I'm reading here may change that.

I had Sprint 3 years ago and got dropped all the time. I then went with T-Mobile and got decent, but occasionally scratchy reception. I never got reception in my house, tho. I have been on Verizon for a year and have never had a problem with reception anywhere in Houston, excepting when I am very deep in the bowels of a metal building. Verizon has a tendency to make "mistakes" in their favor, on their bills, and God help you if you go over your minutes! They also won't tell you that, if you don't want to pay for text messaging, that people can still text-message you, at your cost, unless you also turn that feature off. One learns as on goes... Basically, Verizon is the best reception in Houston. They are also, by far and away, the most expensive. Their "nites and weekends" are also the shortest and tricky. Hint: If you check your messages from a land line, you don't use up your minutes, like you do when you check from your cell phone.
