I am unable to use my cell phone anywhere in my neighborhood. Once in a while I can make a call but after a few seconds the connection is dropped. I have to drive about a mile either way down Fry Rd before I can use my phone. Very annoying.
In my townhouse, I do get reception but it depends where I am in the house. It's much better than my wife's Sprint phone which gets a 0.5 rating... 'cos the phone only rings! At&T Reception seems to be better now that Cingular is involved. Caution: Roaming fees are VERY HIGH, up to $1 per minute + tax and all the other "fees"! I was charged 89c per minute and was told "that's cheap cos it's usually 99c per minute". LOL... General Houston reception is average quality, but I expect more in today's world. Too much interference and some dropped calls.
I have had mobile phones for approximately 18 years. Never has reception been so poor so consistently. In certain spots, at certain times of the day, I will get 3 bars; however, this is the exception rather than the rule.
The reception in the neighborhood is almost impossible. Once out, the reception seems to be quite good. Does Ellington Field have anything to do with this?
I was with Cingular and never got reception in my home, or at school (North Harris College). Went with Verizon and I get coverage everywhere. I've never had a dropped call. Only complaint is Verizon's phone selection, and occationally I'll hear my voice echo during a call.
