AT&T
I have never had a problem with dropped calls or reception in the Heights or anywhere throughout Houston. My contract is up and I'm considering switching over to T-Mobile, but their monthly rates are just as high as At&t's. In the past, I have had problems with At&t's customer service, but within the past 6 months, there has been considerate improvement. I may just stay with AT&T after all. Looks like they're making an attempt to compete rather just stay afloat with iphone craze. Iphone 3Gs, IMO is way over rated unless you want to surf the web on your phone. Definitely just a toy--not a business tool. I've also used the Samsung Blackjack---had no problems with it either. It's just a very outdated phone and I need to upgrade.

OMG... I've been with T-Mobile since they were Aerial as well (since 1998) to be exact and I'm so upset with the lack of service I've been getting. My cell is my only means of communication and people tell me all the time that they have to call me 7-8 times before it rings... .otherwise, it goes to vmail. Don't EVEN get me started on their broadband... ... .

Much better than AT&T ub the Heights - don't need to walk out to front yard to talk!

The trick to good reception is to stand on 1 foot facing NNE and squint your eyes. I get no voice reception inside the townhouse (vinyl siding over wood). Many neighbors also go outside to talk on the phone. As consumers we're crazy to put up with this. If our computers were this unreliable they would have never sold. We put up with it. Shame on us.

I consistently have calls drop. I have contacted T Mobile and requested a boost which seems to have worked for awhile but now is as bad as ever. Not sure if a better quality phone would help (I've used low-end Nokias). However, have had friends over with better quality phones (also on T Mobile network) and they have calls dropped as well.

AT&T
Calls dropped frequently but texting great. Calls also very static and difficult to hear. Can't wait for ATT contract to expire. Would not recommend them for cell phone service.

Crappy AT&T... how can they have a dead zone in the middle of the MEDICAL CENTER??!

In my apartment, my reception is zero (Sometimes I can place a call if I go out on the balcony). Everyone in our building has the same complaint with AT&T. Voice mail pops up 1-2 days later. When I'm out in the world, my phone vibrates once and I have a Missed Call At the Medical Center, while people everywhere are using wire-less, AT&T is use-less. I can't wait until 03 / 29 / 10. Then it's bye, bye AT&T. I wonder how Boost does?

AT&T is terrible in this area, and really bad in my apartment. It's terrible in the ship channel and terrible on the road on the way to work. I'm leaving AT&T and looking at this site for answers on who to go with.

no reception, when you do get reception it is very poor - you have to be outdoors in a certain spot with out moving, like a robot. you have to search for the magic spot to get reception.

The bars show up sometimes but even at 5 bars I drop calls. The call quality is horrible, conversation breaks up every 5 seconds or more. It's been like this all over Houston sinced I moved here a month ago. Had perfect reception in the Mid-Atlantic and Midwest before that. Am getting so frustrated that it will be worth the fee to switch over to Sprint or someone else.

Can't get reception in home. Dropped calls have increased over the past 6 months everywhere in the WEst NW side of town. Can't deal with it any longer.

T-Mobile doesn't work at my house in Champions Creek, which is all the way North on Champions Dr. where Champions Golf Course and Raveneaux Golf Course meet. I've called T-Mobile and they are aware of the issue, but have no immediate fix. I am probably going to switch to Cingular or Verizon based on the posts.

AT&T
This problem started about 3 months ago and has gotten steadily worse. The Apple store switched my phone out today because at least 75% of my calls were dropping. He said that if the new one does the same thing, it is AT&T. Sure enough, I got home with the new phone and five calls dropped right away. If you are thinking of a new iPhone or any other phone with AT&T as your service provider, be careful. The wireless service is unreliable and their customer service is pathetic.

No service in buildings, 1 or 2 bars outside (in the hot sun) but the calls drop even outside and the 3G works rarely. Tell me again why I am paying them >$100 a month?

90% of all calls are dropped inside and outside home. Customer service was anything but helpful. She suggested I get in my care and drive to make a call or receive one.

I usually get like 3 to 2 bars there. It's ok. I don't get dropped calls. And you can still text. But needs improvement. Like in the donut heaven at thAt intersection I only get one bar.

About 70% of the time, cannot make outgoing calls or receive incoming calls; same on wife's clamshell phone. Text messaging works, phone shows full bars. Same problem around Rice University. Problem has been going on for 2 months. Contacted ATT and they "worked" on the problem, sending an email declaring it was resolved. Whatever. I think they are out of bandwidth in area and won't admit to it - increase bandwidth.

I live one block from this intersection in the Royal Oaks subdivision and get very poor reception in my home. Reception in the street is slightly better but still poor. I actually have no reception about 75% of the time and one or two bars of reception 25% of the time.
