"Poor" is being generous. Usually there's NO reception and I must drive ~2 miles away to make a call. AT&T says they're adding or upgrading towers (depending on who you talk to), but nothing's changing. Before I moved here I used 10%. Last month I RAN OUT after just 2 weeks. Once I proved I had to make 5-6 phone calls (in succession) to the same party, AT&T gave me 500 extra minutes. I had to call THEM several times just to complete a conversation. They'd keep saying "you're breaking up" at which point I'd scream "That's because I have AT&T!" I upgraded to the Captivate because I thought my cheap flip-phone was the problem. Not so! Under the 30-day warranty, this phone is going back, my "no contract" status will be restored, and I can go with another carrier. I'd love some suggestions, but from what I'm reading here, it seems they all stink in San Antonio!

Terrible reception. although AT&T has told me we are located in the middle of four towers. I sceptically believed them. I now know why the cell phone companies require a two year noncancellable contract. Otherwise they would be out of business real quick due. I was going to drop the landline but now am thinking of checking into cell phone rehab. There have been exactly zero times that a call could not wait until I got home. Sure there have been a lot of convience calls recieved, but now they are going to ban talking while driving. Same as they did with drinking and driving back in the day. By the way, was it only alcohol beverages against the law while driving? If itis against the law to be DUI? Why do bars have parking lots? I know, for the designated drivers, right. ha ha

I had Sprint and had great coverage in my house. Switched to AT&T for an iPhone about Oct 2008 and have experienced lots of dropped calls and failed call attempts. Even walking around in my neighborhood (outside) the problem exists. I also have an AT&T blackberry for work which has poor reception.

Phone calls are Good. The problem is voice mail. With the phone on, it may be days when all of a sudden a message comes through. Also, with no up front time stamp it causes confusion. Will shop for a better service provider

Started service with AT&T in a different state. Service was okay. Moved to Texas and I now have at least 5-6 dropped calls a day. I am counting down the months before I can get out of the 2-year contract. Even considered paying the money but getting out earlier. Disappointing.

I have 3 phones with AT&T for 18 months now. I am counting down the months when I can switch to a different network. We had switched from Sprint cause of the drop calls. AT&T was good at first, but we started getting poor service around the time that the IPhone came along, I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I constantly lose calls and the bars on my phone stays at 0 to 3. My husband has just got tired of using his phone because of bad service. The service remains the same even outside the home.

I have traded phones twice thinking its the phone. I have AT&T. I have called them at least 10 times. I have been to the ATT store 3 times. I call them crying sometime. Even while on the phone with ATT, I warned the man that we would be disconnected and quickly gave him my land line number. Good thing == because he was gone a second later. Best Buy says it isn't my phone - its ATT. AT&T says we have great reception out here. BAH Humbug

i've had the same phone (motorola razor v3xx) since we signed up with at&t. we lived in the bay area in california, and never got a dropped call. ever! well, we moved 2 months ago to san antonio, and i've had so many dropped calls! sometimes, 3 dropped calls in less than 10 minutes... I can be right next to a window, and same thing, dropping calls... so annoying... I called at&t, they've been sending upgrades to my phone, checking signal and all, and it seems like the problem is that my phone has a 3g technology and it's picking the weakest signal instead of the other great signal from the 3 towers that are in my area... go figure... my phone is under warranty, but they want to make sure it's not a phone issue before they replace it... in the meantime, I get to keep suffering. some days are better than others, but still annoying...

My wife and I have different model phones - mine is a Blackberry 8700c and hers a Motorola flip phone. Cingular service here is terrible. I'm trying to find out which carrier would have superior coverage in the NE area at Stahl and Rocky Creek. For the first year the coverage was acceptable but for the last 4 months - forget it! They keep telling us the coverage is good but we know it isn't. Something had to change and they won't even look into it.

Everytime I try to make a call, the call never goes through and it says "network busy" or "error in connection." When I finally get the call to go through and I'm talking to someone, the call drops. This happens about 90% of the time I try to make a call or I am on the phone. Cingular has sent 2 replacement phones and they both did the same thing. Now they are sending me a different type of phone which I doubt will make a difference, but let's see.

I had a lot of dropped calls with Cingular until my daughter (who had the same Motorola as us) switched to a Nokia and the problems cleared up. Ours did the same, and now I'm happy because it was the phone and not Cingular that was the issue. Reception is overall good; I do have an occasional difficulty in Ft Sam Houston buildings, but otherwise the calls can be clearly heard, little / no static when it does occur. Bottom line: Motorola phones suck, Nokia rules! Cingular service is great.

Went from a Cingular bag phone (3 watts of magnificent analog power!) and two Verizon phones to a Cingular family plan. It took three visits to make the change. The bill looks like three separate single accounts instead of one family plan. The GSM (I assume) is a buttload of echo and / or delay, and enough distortion so that I have to ask who is calling when my VSOP rings up. The phone has no good shortcuts and you have to follow a long menu trail to do the most common and trivial things - do the programmers actually USE these things before inflicting them on the paying public? Could be a great phone, but jeeez, is outsourcing to the lowest bidder always the best option??

I have used a 1900 frequence phone since June,2005 without any problems, but now it drop calls or no reception at all inside the buildings. It happened on June 2006. I though my phone had a problems, so I used difference 1900 frequence phones to test it. No luck at all. So I used 850 frequence phone, it has full reception. I can conclude that Cingular will only support 850 frequence mostly. The 1900 frequence will only work outside area such as Hwy. area. If you have 1900 frequence phone, don't use Cingular service otherwise you will be regret. Trust me!

My office is near Sea World and I live in the Dominon. Cingular coverage on 1604 is an absolute joke with three definite black holes (one is I-10 and 1604). I don't know if it is Cingular or the Motorola Razr. I haven't had much luck in San Antonio with either Cingular or Verizon. Both are poor, both have poor quality customer service.

I switched both my wife and my phone from Sprint. I can't stand Cingular. Their customer service is vastly superior to Sprint's overseas call center (most of the people you talk to couldn't afford a cell phone on an entire year's wages). I dropped Sprint because of their poor customer service, now I'm regretting it. I had no clue what a dropped call was until I got Cingular. Now my wife and I just wait until we get home to talk - it's too maddening to try and converse. I work at Lackland and she works at UTSA. It should be no problem, but it is. My coworker has Verizon and he gets excellent reception, including inside our office, where I get no bars at all.

We have never had a dropped call on our Cingular phone. Not one. bars have been fairly high, however we never need to check because we always connect. We originally had Southwestern Bell Wireless, then were forced to the Cingular, and we have had great sucess. Now that Cingular is owned by a local company, there should be some testing of new services in the area too.

I live approximately 1 / 2 mile from the tall tower in O.P. Schnabel park, where the cells are located. I get pretty good reception inside my house, but sometimes I go from 5 bars to one bar for no apparent reason, and I start to lose my call and have to switch to my landline. I would really expect better reception this close to the tower. Perhaps Cingular isn't serviced by this tower, or the cells get full, and interference results.

Connection up and down Broadway is fine, but I live in an old brick house and reception indoors is pathetic. Almost guaranteed that a call over 5mins will drop. I also get the digital skips during any conversation, regardless of signal, so that I have to ask people to repeat themselves often. Cingular's customer service reps have been friendly but reception quality in my house and the skipping problem make me ready to try something else.

Anywhere, San Antonio, TX 78243 Fri Jun 03, 2005

Switched to Cingular after Voicestream became T-Mobile and they changed my plan on me (even though they claim they did not). Might be regretting the change now as Cingular service is horrible no matter where I am. First phone was a Motorola V220 and reception and clarity were incredibly bad. Read reviews and this phone was rated poor, so spent the money and got an LG 1400 after reading reviews that said it was a good phone. It hasn't helped any. Reception on Cingular is poor all the time, even though the phone shows a full 5 bars. It is hard to understand the person I am talking to because their voice sounds like it fades in and out with a weird digital interference sound. I can be right smack in town, with full bar reception and simply turn my head and lose connection. I constantly have to ask people to repeat what they are saying because they can't be understood well due to their voice dropping out or fading. I get dropped calls constantly and a lot of my calls are to my wife, also using an LG 1400 phone on Cingular. It is not uncommon for us to have to call each other back and forth 2-3 or more times just to have one conversation of several minutes. Another thing that is highly annoying is that Cingular phones interfere with any radio or speakers. If you have your computer sound on, or stereo on, the phone causes loud buzzing noises any time it sends or receives. I have come to recognize certain buzzing patterns and can actually answer my phone before it ever rings. We literally have to shut off all radios and stereos any time we use the phones in our home. Unfortunately, I am stuck with a 2 year contract with this crappy service and the only way out is to pay their fee. I'm sorry I went to Cingular and I would never recommend them to anyone.
