Here in Terrell, reception with Cingular cannot be beat! No dropped calls, no delays in making calls, and I've been satisfied 100%, so far. I've researched the tower maps for wireless providers and it shows a Cingular tower on Hwy 34 North, just outside the city limits. But I believe Cingular has agreements with other carriers to provide service without incurring roaming charges, I'm sure like other providers. So if anyone is in Terrell and their phone says "Cingular Extend," it's probably because the phone was tucked away in a purse or in a pant pocket.
However, with AT&T, a previous provider I had at one time, there's only on tower in town, located near W Moore & Bradshaw. Sitting inside of a home on Meredith or Town North, one signal bar at best, which means very choppy conversation if it's not already a dropped call. Very little reception (one bar) in Elmo, approx 6 miles east of Terrell. In Poetry, north of Terrell, going out FM 1565 from FM 986 toward Royse City, very little reception (Extended Area or Roam), even though we're not billed for it.
In summary, Cingular has much better coverage than AT&T in the Terrell area & surrounding rural communities. Of course, weather and atmospeheric conditions play part in the quality of reception, as well.
