I was a former AT&T customer and switched to Cingular a month ago. I have better reception than before. In my home office, I formerly had 1 bar and had to stand next to a window to talk with a person on the phone. With Cingular Orange, I have 4-5 bars and I no longer have to leave my chair to talk to people( although I stillfind myself pacing around the house on a call out of habit).

We "upgraded" from our AT&T wireless TDMA plan to the Cingular GSM plan to get a new phone and better coverage, and more minutes. The result has been very disappointing. Depending on where we are in the house, we get 2 bars to no coverage at all.

In the whole city there has never been one time that I have had 5 bars. Cingular just bought all of ATT's towers too. I have better luck with a knock off provider like Amerilink or US Cellular.

Been with AT&T for several years with excellent signal and reception. Very old, but not cheap phone, and still works wonders. Voice, text, never missed a call, and voice quality is excellent. Yes, more expensive, but when you want to count on your phone, you get what you pay for! I have tried Virgin Mobil, Sprint, and T-Mobile at the same location. All of these are a joke this far out of town compared to AT&T. AT&T maps do not even show good signal coverage for me and still works great!

Had to take the phone back. Terrible dependability, esp inside at my house. Missed calls while driving and even in the mall, the bars would fluctuate wildly. Switched to the Gravity2 and had the same problem, even after changing out SimCard. Now am back to my old 490 and am glad it at least works reliably. What is up with the 3G and the "smart phone" technology? My old dinosaur out performs both of the newer phones.

Reception is so bad that you cannot hear enough to understand what the call is about. About all you can do is go to a landline phone and call the person back.

I live near Burkburnett Rd, by Sheppard AFB. I get full bars all around my house and the base. Reception is excellent. Inside my work building downtown, I get maybe 2-3 bars, but still works good. I don't travel much into rural areas, so I can't comment on rural coverage. T-Mobile coverage has been very good in Wichita Falls,TX. Only a few minor deadspots here and there.

Been with At&t / Cingular for 16 years. Loved AT&T in AZ but here, in Wichita Falls the reception is below average at best. AT&T is the only major carrier with no 3G service here. And, they won't tell you when its coming. I'm out of contract so, at the end of December I'm firing them and will go with either T Mobile or Sprint (I hate Sprint). Verizon is too expensive for similar plans. I've been disapointed with At&t, however, their customer service at the retail stores is excellant. I just wish their commercials were factual about 3G. Verizon is killing them with the map thing. Come on AT&T your customers deserve 3G.
