People complain a lot about AT&T coverage, but I haven't had too many problems with it. I've had a dropped call here and there but not enough for me to complain. VERIZON is the best, by far and T-MOBILE is a complete disaster, I will probably never use T-MOBILE again.

One Half Bar in some areas of Elizabethtown and no service standing in my house. Dropped calls at some locations and can't hear anyone at others. No 3G coverage through out. Yet AT&T states that they have total coverage! Don't think so AT&T!

Had AT&T in OK before moving to VA and had great service and reception. I had to change after almost 6 months of poor to no service from Blacksburg to DC. It was always dead, or dropping calls. Moved to US Cellular and have service when Verizon and others fail. Great option but no DC location. Closest is 5 hrs away... ..

I have had my ohone for about 3 weeks and have the unlimited plan and pay about $130.00 a month for service since I do not use my house line. I currently moved to a new condo and have no service at al. I also have a T-Mobile phone that gets at least 1 bar but my Cingular is horrible on reception. Great phone but poor reception.

Thu Aug 09, 2007 |
For the section of Beulah between Charles Arrington Drive, crossing the Springfield / Franconia parkway (by the Healthplex), continuing to Steiway St. is a deadzone for AT&T / Cingular. In the Manchester Lakes shopping center you get spotting coverage outside of the buildings, but NO coverage within Bungalowes. My girlfriend has Verizon and she has full coverage in these area. AT&T claims, after several phone calls, that this area has perfect coverage (listed as excellent on their maps). I filed a technical issue with them regarding this, and they responded back within an hour saying the problem has been fixed. No it hasn't - my phone still looses service there as do everyone else I know who has AT&T.

worse AT&T, Cingular or whatever they wana change their name to next, worse reception worse customer service, I had Verizon for 11 years and I had to go Cingular coz we moved to a new office and cing the 1 phone worked some what, but not any where else I hope someone will sue them for that commercial erasing the bar and the fewest drop calls are the biggest B S. going back to Verizon

Old Town Alexandria, Alexandria, VA 22314 |
Sun Mar 18, 2007 |
My fiance and I moved into a townhouse in Old Town Alexandria in Nov 2006. We both have a Motorola V557 phone and absolutely no signal in our home. We've talked with customer support more than we talked to with family and here's the verdict. We've been told we have "the best reception" at our location, yet somehow, we're still unable to use our phones. After several rounds of exchanging our phones for new / refurbished phones of the same model, we still had no luck. So, the next step was to obtain new SIM cards, because somehow, both of ours were possibly flawed. Shockingly, that also did nothing to solve the problem. So, here we sit after 4 months of shoddy-to-no service with 2 useless cell phones and no real impending solution. Cingular may be good in some places, but if I have to watch one more "fewest dropped calls" commercial, I'll scream! Verizon is the ONLY way to go in the DC metro area as far as I'm concerned.

Something must have changed in the past couple of months because I now get excellent connectivity in and around the house and in the general area. In the past I would have 1 bar or none at all. Even in the Belleview Safeway I can make / receive calls. Never could do that in the past.

I don't bother calling long distance friends because I know I'll end up saying "I'm sorry, I can't hear you, are you there?" Just before they drown in static. We have the family plan and my wife's line is even worse. She has to plug the phone in, use an earpiece, and sit still by the window to have a chance at reception. Worse still, for some reason it takes us 2-3 times to connect--and when we do it often ends badly. I've really grown to hate Cingular. If you live in Alexandria, you'll be sorry if you sign with them. We're about to cancel our contract and pay the extortion-like penalty because right now we're paying for nothing. The service was good until around the time they merged with A&TT, and it has grown progressively worse.

I consistently drop calls in my home, on the gw parkway and at my office in mclean. Several times a day! I had AT&T but had to switch with the merger. I loved AT&T! I have complained enough to Cingular they have decided to release me from my contract if I mail my phone back (in good condition) - which is fine but where to go next??

On average the GSM connection is 1 out of 5 bars. Generally outside it will go up a bar, but indoors it frequently has no signal at all. Ironically, there is a Cingular store nearby... while inside discussing my disappointment with the signal strength, I looked at the phone and it had full 5 bars. One block later, it was back to 2 bars. I love it.
