My cell has bad reception along Rt. 66 and 110. And going underground, with the Metro or even in my own basement.

On average the GSM connection is 1 out of 5 bars. Generally outside it will go up a bar, but indoors it frequently has no signal at all. Ironically, there is a Cingular store nearby... while inside discussing my disappointment with the signal strength, I looked at the phone and it had full 5 bars. One block later, it was back to 2 bars. I love it.

Del Ray (especially) and Old Town Alexandria need better coverage. In 22305, just north of 22301 intersection mentioned, the reception is awful. Calls dropped at least once during every phone conversation.

Reception in our high-rise building, "The Aspen", and in the surrounding grounds is terrible. Told this is true of other services, besides Sprint. Sometimes the signal simply fades out within seconds. It's odd, because I am up very high & have a clear view of National Airport, Capital Bld, Washington Monument, etc. (even have a balcony). People are now used to me calling them back 2-3 times during a phone conversation. The Sprint employees are very good though, and that company has been very proactive in suggesting better deals and discounts. But, if I knew of a provider with decent reception here...

My sprint phone works all over the place. I live in a high rise and it works perfectly in there. The only complaint I have it that it goes into analog roam in the metro, but then again I am lucky its a dual band and even has analog anymore! If you need to use your phone on the metro on a regular basis skip sprint, otherwise its a great deal/service ;)

GW Parkway / Tulane Drive to Mt. Vernon, Alexandria, VA 22306 |
Mon Apr 19, 2004 |
Going south on GW Parkway, lose reception around Tulane Drive (4 mi south of Old Town Alexandria) and don't pick up reception until passing Mt. Vernon. This is a dangerous area in which to lose reception, particularly at night if in an emergent situation (very dark and low traffic volume).

potomac yard shopping center, Alexandria, VA 22305 |
Sun Feb 08, 2004 |
perfect reception near the shopping center. going north there is a bad spot right at 20th street, but calls don't normally drop. going south, great reception though a few bad spots in Old Town Alexandria, which is a known bad spot for every carrier.
Have used phone in Pentagon City area, Montgomery Mall area, Gaithersburg, Silver Spring, Baltimore, Columbia, Glen Burnie. Have had great service in almost all areas...Eastern Shore coverage kind of sucks if you travel off Rt 50

Alexandria Old Town, Alexandria, VA 22304 |
Sun Dec 28, 2003 |
T-Mobile is solid in Old Town Alexandria, VA and in the Alexandria City border. It is also solid in most of Arlington, VA. Out west, the beltway is well-covered. It is also solid along the Dulles Toll Road, and in Herndon, VA (including strong signals deep into Nextel office building). Around DC (I took my sister on the trolley bus tour) the signals were strong as well.
Just like with other services, however, coverage may be door-to-door specific. Some neighborhood may have patchy reception. T-Mobile Web site has a page to report coverage interruption -- use it if you are a T-Mobile customer.
