The reception is excellent on campus and around the town of Blacksburg. Verizon is the only service that works even in basements of the thick stone-walled buildings on campus. Reception is good on the entire stretch of the 460 t0 C'Burg and on I-81 up to DC.

The only time I lose reception is inside a VT building that has cellphone blockers installed intentionally... and even there I get SOME signal. <3 Verizon!

reception is good everywhere on campus if youre outside. take 2 steps into any building and youre probably out of luck. in pritchard, my phone works ok if I force it into analog. digital works near the windows. it works pretty well in owens and dietrick. right at 9, its rare to get a call through on the first try.

Used to be pretty bad until AT&T installed 3G all over town last year. Now get good to excellent coverage everywhere. Sometimes problems in the basement of War Memorial, but other than that no issues. No drops, call quality is good.

There are very few places in Blacksburg and Christiansburg that I can't good coverage. I do have trouble at Krogers (all 3 in the area)- and I can still find places in the store that it works- it's just not perfect. I can't think of anywhere else I have trouble off the top of my head, but I know there have been some dropped calls here and there.

The reception is pretty good in most places except buildings like Torgersen Hall. It doesn't really get full bars and cuts off in thick buildings but when I have coverage call quality is good (hence a rating of four). They have upgraded the towers and it seems like they only had Edge in the area before and now they have 3G around Blacksburg. I've driven and walked around Blacksburg / Christiansburg / Radford / Salem / etc and I have had coverage.

I think Sprint service was decent and it has gotten better over the years. I get it everywhere outside. I am able to walk around in the dorm and get good reception. The only better service in town is Verizon..my friend walks around in these limestone castles with perfect reception!

Verizon is the best service provider in blacksburg area. Reception is good everywhere.. even in the basement of buildings on campus such as McBryde.

I very rarely have reception problems in any areas that I go. All of Bburg, Cburg, Radford, and all surrounding areas are great, usually 4-5 bars. Even travelling on Price's Fork between Bburg and Radford when most people I know calls get lost I still have at least 2 bars. I do have a random going into roaming problem. This occurs at various spots around town. If it happens to kick into roaming when I'm on a call it will drop. But this doesn't happen often enough to be too bothered by it since most other times I always have reception even when my b / f's Verizon phone does not.

It's great in certain areas beating a Verizon iPhone 4 with no problem then you walk into a room with concrete walls and your 3G goes from 5 bars to 1 maybe 2 3G bars at best... None of the major companies can get a signal in the buildings on campus because of the Hokie stone super thick walls. AT&T needs to add another cellphone tower and offer 4G before they can deserve a 5 out of 5 review.

I've gotten 1-4 bars everywhere in blacksburg / christiansburg. I've used it on Campus, Oakbridge, Tech Terrace, Foxridge, and Terrace View apts without any dead spots. Used to be that there were several dead spots, but now there aren't any, except in McBryde. The good thing about Verizon / Sprint in general is that they use CDMA technology which gives you clear calls even on 1 bar, so that's all you need pretty much. With Cingular / TMobile, they use GSM - where every bar makes a difference in audio quality.

I feel like I am being generous giving them a 2. At AT&T, I was told that they would be putting up new towers in two weeks - that was three weeks ago. I usually never get service in my room until yesterday, where I started getting a bar (not 3g) in some spots, but it's on and off. I really hope that wasn't due to the tower they were putting up and that I had high expectations for.

For the past two years AT&T has almost never had service on campus. My phone is more like an iPod Touch and an iPhone at this point. Off campus is a little better, but don't expect to download anything without WiFi in Blacksburg. I spoke with AT&T last night for an hour and while their customer service people were polite and eager to help, their technician was a jerk who was particularly unhelpful. Don't get AT&T and if you do, don't expect them to do anything to make your service better.

Off campus you are able to get a signal however in buildings I don't even get texts. You'd think with the past you'd have better service.

Just terrible. It's better now that I'm not in a dorm (where I never had service unless I was hanging out a window). But still I only get maybe 3 bars in my apartment. No chance of service in most buildings on campus. If my family didn't all have AT&T I would throw my AT&T contract in the trash and switch to Verizon, or really anyone that isn't AT&T. Hell, even T-Mobile gets better service. STEP IT UP AT&T!

The reception in buildings is horrible around town. I cannot make calls, text, or get on the internet while in any building. I have to stick my phone on a window sill to get just one bar of service and most times that does not work. They say they are getting more towers down here, but I have yet to see the proof and I have been down here for 2 years. I am very disappointed in the service. We will see what they do about the 4G down here. I'm not optimistic.
