In past 10 days have driven all around Charlottesville area looking to buy a home. LTE frequently absent and 3G imperfect. downloads slow. Appalling that people spend vast sums for negligible service.

AT&T is the worst carrier I have ever had. No service at all at my job. I have never had such a terrible experience.

Not bad. Sprint is famously awful here, the other 3 are all okay I think.

Sprint

ALERT: There are no Sprint towers in central Va AT ALL... it's all leased towers from Intellos! I used to get decent talk, data and text around the airport on 29. About 6 months ago, I started to get roaming alerts where I used to get 4 bar connectivity. There is a dead spot on Proffitt Rd and at least 1 on 20 nearing Pantops. To top it off, there is no 4G service and barely 3G in and around "the best place to live" (sarcasm) Charlottesville. Sprint has 4G in major cities ONLY (NoVa, Hampton Roads, Richmond, some interstates). Looking to switch carriers!

I love T-Mobile and won't switch because I'm only a visitor to charlottesville now, but the service here is abysmal. T-Mobile reps had told me that my service would improve with a T-Mobile phone (old phone was an iPhone 4 from AT&T with a Tmo SIM) but that has helped very little. I'm usually on 2G (Edge) in Cville which basically means data is unusable, including iMessage.

My calls drop or mostly never come through at my two story town house. I got AT&T in PA and I seriously have to switch carriers after a year of dropped and missed calls.

Anyone notice a trend here ? All networks have coverage issues. I have been a cell phone administrator for a large compay with over 400 cell phones. They utilized Verizon. I have had plans with sprint, att and now tmobile. Verizon probably does have the best network, but there must be a great deal of 40+ year olds writing these reviews that are expecting their cell network to work like their landline phones. Bottom line, everyone hates their network, they switch and then they hate that one too. That being said, T-Mobile is just average but definitely the worst. Just like the rest of them... .

Do not use Verizon if you live near Pantops. I have experienced so many dropped calls that it is impossible to hold a conversation with anyone. Verizon rep first told me that I could drop my contract with no charge if they could not fix it and after 6 months of calls and promises and no response from Verizon, I was told I would be charged $210 for a contract cancellation or I could pay $249 for a booster. Great business minds to lose a customer worth thousands of dollars in continuing contracts over refusal to pay $249 for a booster. Goodbye Verizon... more $ than brains!

Usually have full bars all around town, seldom 2-3 bars driving outside the city and out to Crozet. No reception to 1 or 2 bars near Blue Mountain Brewery. Seldom drops calls, great data speed and call quality. Very happy with AT&T.
