Finally decided to step into the 21st century and get a cell phone. I probably did too much research, but I compared all the providers here and talked to everybody I knew. Seemed like most co-workers were pleased with their service, but I had a friend with nTelos that advised me against it for lack of signal in many places. It seemed like Alltel and Verizon got the best reviews and seemed to do the best at work and in several places I asked about. I compared all the plans and Alltel also seemed to do very well compared to others, especially when compared to Verizon since those were the main 2 that were recommended for best coverage. I did like the My Circle bonus. But since I got the phone about a month ago, I've also noticed great coverage. I can make a call whenever and wherever, even in buildings others warn me about. For this area, Alltel coverage has been great in my usage but I will update if I find any weak spots to warn others about.

i've had Alltel for more than a year and get great reception most places except in my home. it's come and go on the ground floor, but always good on the 2nd floor. great customer service in my experience. was told by a friend who works for a rival service that Alltel has the most towers in the area-maybe true, maybe not, but I rarely have a dropped call in the entire hampton roads area and beyond.

I love alltell's coverage in this rural area. My son has nextel, it never worked well, my daughter has Ntelos, no reception either. I can even get calls on Knotts Island, many people cannot. An Alltel tech told me Motorola has best reception rating, and I am pleased. I'm updating for the new GPS rule, and plan to stay on Alltel with a Motorola phone.

0-4 bars (fluctuating), overall low quality due to location. Phone is usually better in other locations.

i have been on alltel, Verizon and att. Alltel was worst,but Verizon and AT&T have the same dead zones on moses grandy parkway and in the rear of foodlion or walmart. I have excellant 3g coverage at home and at work (greenbrier) on att.

Hello, what a mistake Cingular made by merging and picking up Suncom customers. We were all excited about our new cell phones. I have the worst cell phone I have ever owned. I have the Samsung Sgh-E317. Customer Service is awful. When you call Cingular to address a problem they only want to know when are you going to make your next payment and it's frustrating. When I received my phone it made a beeping sound when I talk on it and Cingular told me that it was because it's new. Well one months have past and it still beeps. The reception is bad. At first I could not talk inside of any stores especially Walmart. Now I can talk inside store. Guess what now I have to answer by the third ring or I can recieve my incoming calls. I wish Suncom had never left.

when I had Suncom, I could talk in my house. Once I switched to Cingular I barely have signal in my house! Could it be the cheap phones they made us get?

I love how I pass by the "Cingular... Now Virginia's best network." yet, I get NO service there. Cingular should worry less about thier signs and more about their coverage!

Hovered around 0-1 Bars... sometimes I'd get lucky and get 2 bars.. averaged 1.

i get hardly any reception in my area maybe 1 to 2 bars. Cingular sucks they have hidden fee's and loop holes like no other companies I have even seen. it is horrible

Works great, if you're standing still. Drops near Greenbrier on 64, near Jordan Bridge on 464, near the MAC Terminal on 564, and various other places. Don't go in a building if you plan to keep a conversation going for more than a few minutes. Now that Suncom is going to Cingular, my 4 month old GSM phone is no longer going to work and I need to get a new contract to get a new phone. My new contract will be with a diferent carrier!

I have only had 1 dropped call since I got my V600. I think the phone is awesome.

Excellent coverage out here! Seems to be a dead spot on Greenbriar towards Centerville, and again on Centerville towards Kempsville. Otherwise, very good even in buildings. Looking to try GSM. Wondering what Cingular will do with us Suncom users.

I have NTELOS with this and reception on both my wifes and my own E310 fades and has numerous drop calls. NTELOS claims its not their network or the phone, so it must be the area I live in, but I have my doubts as my neighbor uses Nextel and has no problems at all.

This area is very close to work. Had one maybe two bars, seemed poor quality service at this location, somewhat slow data. (phone as a modem). Updated PRL, (prefered roaming list) and I now have 4 sometimes 5 bars, no more dropped calls there and data is faster. Was several revisions behind in PRL but update seems to have resolved any coverage problems I had with this phone. Seems only phones made in the past two years or more have the PRL update in the phone interface. Users of all carriers should probably look into this as well. Sure worked for me!

Phone always indicates 2 bars of service. If you get a call, don't move! If you do move you are guaranteed to loose the call. If I stand on the rock in the front yard and look the right way, without moving. I can talk.

Extremely poor if any recption when inside. Have to go out side with one hand in the air and holding the phone at a 45 degree angle to be able to make a call. As soon as my service plan is up I am switching to another service. Wife has Verizon and it works great.

Sprint Connectivity in our home (Mar 2005-Jul 2006) away from a window no bars, next to window 1-bar. Calls answered or made from home usually lose connection. Had same reception problems with Verizon and Sun prior to Sprint. Next door neighbor has Alltel. His phone displays 4 bars in my house and excellent reception.

This is ridiculous. If we're able to place or receive a call we cannot keep a call for more than 4 minutes without loosing service. If someone is reading this, let's get some more service out here and let's rise up.

I have had T-Mobile since 2001 and I havent had a problem with service since. I have been through many phones, like Nokia 3390, Sidekick 2 and 3, Wing, Blackberry, Nokia 3595, Nokia 6030, and the current phone that I have now is the G1. the G1 by far is the best phone for signal. wherever I go (expect for places where they have alot cement) I get really good signal. I have tested it by traveling from Chesapeake to Richmond, I always had at least 2 bars from the 2 hour drive.
