Currently with AT&T since 2005, but we've had poor reception in this area since we've had cell phones here in about 2000 (previously with Verizon on a Motorola Startac). I love it when the Verizon guys come to our neighborhood to work on landlines or FIOS. They can't use their cell phones, and ask to use my landline - can't you hear me now? The cell phone companies tell us that coverage in our area is good. Obviously, they listen to their technical service people, and not their customers. My neighbors are always outside trying to complete calls that they couldn't initiate or that hung up on them while they were inside. Forcing customers to move outside to complete calls lends a whole new meaning to "mobile service". If one cellular provider parked a tower at the top of Andes, say at the community pool for example, that provider would capture our entire neighborhood of hundreds of homes, and the adjacent Fx. City neighborhoods where I'm seeing lots of complaints here at cellreceptiondotcom.

Am on 9th floor of major office building, inside office away from windows. According to my iPhone coverage varies from 3 bars (3G), 5 minutes later I may have 2 bars Edge service and then it may even go down to 'searching', i.e. zippo bars. Very inconsistent and has gotten alot worse in the last month SMSs and voicemails often reach me hours later - often when I drive away form the area in the evening. This is pathetic given I am in a major NoVa business cluster. After 10 years with AT&T I will switch to VZ. I just can't afford to not be reachable.

I moved here from Michigan, where the AT&T service was even worse. In Fairfax City there is a 50-50 chance of poor reception. Dropped calls all the time, even though my phone indicates I have 5 bars. Lots of locations in NOVA with 2 to 0 bars. Will be switching to another carrier.

Rated for indoors. In the basement, I get zero bars. If I stand next to a window, I can sometimes get 3 bars. I Bought an ATT MicroCell that allows up to 5 bars all over the house which is a vast improvement, but a) ATT should distribute these devices freely since I am still paying to use their network and b) it is an internet device so there is latency with voice that is annoying while conversing. Always seem to be talking over each other.

Spotty reception at home. After years of suffering switched to Verizon and have 4 / 4 bars at home. ATT was reasonable and after many complaints allowed us to cancel with no penalty. They even bought back our newest phones. Very Fair!

Outdoors the recption is good, however (lack of) call connection and dropped calls has become a big issue. Indoors I get 0-2 bars. When I was an AT&T customer in the same area, I never had such issues.

Service previously worked until recently for Cingular Blue (TDMA). Now 9+ calls out of 10 get a fast busy signal and maybe one call out of 10 connects. Not just with my phone, but also with a relative's phone with the same service and a different phone model. Both phones get 3 out of 4 signal bars in the affected area.

I had AT&T TMDA. Until aprox. 4 Weeks ago, it was great, then they relaigned the towers. Since the TMDA service has become unusable, I swtiched to Cingular (GSM?). The service is really is LOUSY ! For what ever reason, I get no service inside comercial buildings (the grocery, post office, shops, etc) and around the beltway it is equally undependable. In my house, the signal ranges from nothing to full signal. I go one block and the signal is perfect. Another block and it is nonexistant. The service is not as good as AT&T. I want my AT&T TMDA. I get fewer bars in more places !

Reception used to be good inside my house but since a couple of months ago (This report written 9 / 2005) the reception in my house has been atrocious. I've had to walk outside to get good reception. What kind of crap is that? -- Interesting note: The "bars" look good on my cell phone until I make a call, then it bounces all over the place.

At best, two bars indoors, generally only when standing by a window or door. Other services (Verizon, occasionally Sprint) have much better service, typically around 3-4 bars.

Maybe it's the overhead power lines, but there is very little reception (1, maybe 2 bars) turning off Braddock Rd on Colchester. I am an ATT Wireless customer and switched from Cingulr to find better reception. Not better. May now be worse following the merger with Cingular. Are they reducing power on the ATT subscribers???

Cell singal fluctuates wildly between 0-3 bars, making it impossible (at times) to place a call without being dropped every 2-3 minutes. Called Cingular numerous times over the last 3 months and they claim it's not their equip -- actually stated that I should have "great" cell coverage due to my location.

TDMA, I drive Braddock Rd from Centreville to Alexandria every day. I have signal in Centrevile, lose it at Colchester Rd, have no signal at Fairfax Co. Pkwy. inspite of a big tower right there, pick up signal at Rt 123 for a short distance, have some signal at Kings Park but have some drops until near the beltway, Rt 495.

Reception is terrible indoors, gets considerably better once outside. Calls often require multiple attempts to connect and dropped calls aren't uncommon, either. Cingular was great while I was in Arlington but could use a lot of improvement in Fairfax.
