US Cellular is the only cell phone company that works in this rural area. I bought a pre-paid plan since we use Verizon phone everywhere else (US Cellular has no coverage in many states and we live in one of those states). Support for pre-paid customers is very poor. On their website, US Cellular does not reveal all of the limitations they have for pre-paid plans: 1) cannot signup for online access to your account 2) minutes are charged when calling 611 or voice mail. Also, if you have questions about why your pre-paid minutes are used up 4x faster than you expect, the ONLY way to get call history from them is to visit one of their stores (there is no store within 300 miles of our home location).
In Downtown Galax, no reception on iPhone with AT&T. When I had Verizon, got one bar; better, but almost useless. Why is cell phone reception so bad in Galax? Apparently US Cellular is the only option, but that's no good for those of us who live out of the area (i.e. in a non-US Cellular area) but who travel here a lot.
Trying to run a business on this phone is a joke. Cannot keep a call on the road or in the car. US Cellular support stated that they were making upgrades to the towers, but what consumers ought to know is that they eliminated coverage to several already declining service areas. Did anyone else notice services worsening over the last few months? Prices haven't changed though... hmmm.
