Bethel Manor Air Force housing is a black hole for Alltel. Inside the houses there is no reception on the ground floor. Reception on second floor and outside is below average for both connectivity and quality. I have been in contact with Tech Support several times about this problem and have found that the no / poor reception stems from Bethel Manor being equidistant between two towers that are over 4 miles apart. Alltel plans no fix for the problems in the foreseeable future. With my contract up I am going with Sprint, since Sprint has erected what's expected to be a digital service tower at the StoreMoore location on the corner of Hwy. 134 and Big Bethel Road. This tower is no more than 300m from the house. If you live in Bethel Manor, do not select Alltel as your carrier.
Love the reception and the you upgrade software yourself by dialing in feature but the cost of the service compared to my old plan with same carrier is insane. no dropped calls unless going west in HRBT(Tunnel).
The phone is nice, but T-Mobile's reception is pretty poor OUTSIDE my house (1-2 bars). I'm VERY lucky to see 1 bar inside my house on the second floor.
Alltel really needs a more visible store round here so more people would consider them but their coverage is simply the best. I don't have any of the problems my friends have with reception. I've been using Alltel for the past 2 years and am about to get a new phone. But I wanted to write a review of my experience. And it's really a full signal all over Hampton. My best friend has Cingular and he has to borrow my phone all the time. When I try to think of the local hot spots, I get a full signal at Hampton U, at the high school too, at the mall, and Wal-mart. There's no problem areas I can think of and nowhere, not even indoors I can't make a call. If you want a good signal around here with calls that sound good go with Alltel.
Great phone, terrible network. Reception intermittent in and around my home. Somewhat better outside, but not significantly and not consistently. I can stand in a spot and get as much as two bars and go back to the same spot later and get no reception at all. I get solid reception at work (in the NASA / LAFB area), however. Phone is kept up to date with software / programming through Verizon's over the air feature, but with little effect. It's mostly a placebo to keep me paying the monthly fee, I think. I'd like to meet that "Can you hear me now?" idiot and... well, nevermind.
Using verizon.I live in the Farmington Section in Hampton near Todds Ln. I get Good to Perfect reception from inside a brick house. My Son has Sprint PCS and a Sanyo cell phone and has very poor reception and lots of dropped calls.
good coverage for the most part in this area. used to drop calls like crazy when I had the Motorola v551. but when I got the Nokia 6102 I hardly ever dropped calls.
I am less than 2 miles from the Tower at Hampton roads parkway. Open fields between tower and my apartment. I live in ground floor apartment facing the tower. There are no obstructions. I get ZERO signal in my Apartment, Not even near the windows.
Olde Wythe section. Little to no recepition in the house with Sprint PCS, some limited to broken on the patio. My neighbor's Alltel phone seems to work much better. My neighbor's Verizion phone does not work any better than the Sprint.
Just switched from another provider and may be switching back. Have vast periods of time with NO coverage inside the house. At most, get 1-2 bars (far less than 1 / 2). Outside the subdivision, coverage is fine.
