Strong signal throughout the entire area, able to make calls without too much dropping out even in very remote areas. Able to pick up EVDO signal throughout most of Gloucester, but sometimes it just doesn't work. Verizon's cell sites have backup generators in case of emergencies-- this is essential after hurricaines! If only Verizon wasn't so expensive, especially for data.
I was really surprised when I saw how good reception was when I signed up with Alltel. Much better than with previous provider. I really don't even worry about getting signal anymore, I just expect it because there's nowhere I can't make a call. I gave 5 bars, sometimes it does drop to 4 but I always have coverage even indoors. No problems where I work or at elementary school where I find myself waiting every day. Check the towers on this site, it shows Alltel owning the only tower in Hayes. I love the service and I get so more minutes than I use to get with bad service elsewhere.
Worst reception I have found is here at home. Most areas I have found 4-5 bars. Never had a dropped call, and never missed a call, at least not one where they left a voicemail. I drive between Hayes and Richmond on the back roads and never drop below 4 bars, once I leave the house.
Original 720 got below average (2 bars), 1st replacement and 2nd replacement both still under warranty could not maintain a connected call for 3 minutes without dropping. Alltel was no help other than saying the 720 is usally a pretty good phone. They did send out some tech reps, or they say, but never saw them and they didn't find anything. Needless to say I was glad when the contract was finally up. Now my daughter just moved in with Alltel and a Motorola T720 and she is having the same dropped call problems.
