This entire afluent community gets barely one bar of service. There are a few hundred students and teachers alone who'd switch to AT&T if the service would improve. I've been looking into repeaters for at least one dorm... The signal is inexcusible and is a saftey hazard.
All around Lynchburg I have perfect service. Even at LU when I am inside I have pretty decent service accept for in the heart of North Campus which is where I will be lucky if I get 1 bar. For LU students, SPRINT is definitely the best service there is!
I am concerned about my signal once Verizon takes over Alltel next week. I heard there is no tower in Lynchburg and the reception is horrible. Will they use Alltel's towers to give customers the same reception? My contract is up and I am considering changing carriers.
Outside the reception is not bad. It is when you go indoors mostly. I get absolutely no connection at work (Liberty University). It's odd to think that a University of 10,000+ students doesn't have an AT&T tower nearby. There is also two other colleges in the area. When I'm at home I have a signal 90% of the time. When it gets cloudy I sometimes have problems. I wish AT&T would realize that they are loosing a steady stream of customers and would install a tower to remedy it. Every year, about 3-5,000 freshman come in. Kids with iPhones trade them in because they do not get any reception in the dorms or the main academic building. Most freshman with AT&T turn to Verizon and that includes whole familys if they're on a family plan.
I am exceedingly happy with Sprint's coverage in and around Lynchburg. There are a couple of dead zones between Forest and Bedford on 221 (my daily commute) but I can plan around it. Around Lynchburg and in my Wyndhurst basement, I have been very happy with Sprint. My only complaint with Sprint is the phones: the offers are not great. There aren't many fun options (No I-PHONE for you!)... But functionally, Sprint is your #1 choice in Lynchburg!
Had Alltel for a few years, pretty satisfied, its my only source of communication,no home phone, inside reception is great, occasional lost calls but overall satisfied.
We go outside most of the time to use our cell phones like most of our neighbors with difsignal ferent providers. I hope for Verizon increases strength in our neighborhood
Verizon has been fine while I'm driving around town, but in my house the reception is dreadful. A little less than half of my calls are ruined by the reception going in and out. I can't hear them, they can't hear me. I call back and then things are fine. I have no idea why. Other times the call is just dropped. Sometimes my phone won't ring at all and the call will go right to voice mail. My wife can't use her phone at work in Bedford because reception is poor. I don't call my friends anymore because all I say is "What?" and "How about now?" and "Hold on, let me try over by another window." I live half a mile north of Rivermont. My phone always shows two bars, but that doesn't seem to mean anything. Verizon. Yuck.
