I have had AT&T for several years now and it works great in Lynchburg. EPIC SIGNAL! They keep adding towers in my area, my signal keeps getting better, and having the 3G is awesome! Not to mention their 3G is way faster than the competition, plus that speed is being upgraded as well, and then 4G is coming. Assuming all things stay the same, I will never switch!

I would suggest getting Verizon. I get 3-5 bars in my boyfriend's apt. I havent had any problems with Verizon in this area. Ive been to Charlottesville, va and my phone has roamed but I got reception no matter what. Just couldnt open up Pix messages or videos but could text.

I am exceedingly happy with Sprint's coverage in and around Lynchburg. There are a couple of dead zones between Forest and Bedford on 221 (my daily commute) but I can plan around it. Around Lynchburg and in my Wyndhurst basement, I have been very happy with Sprint. My only complaint with Sprint is the phones: the offers are not great. There aren't many fun options (No I-PHONE for you!)... But functionally, Sprint is your #1 choice in Lynchburg!

I've used Alltel and Verizon all around Lynchburg, Bedford, Forest, Roanoke, etc. These two are the best by far. Verizon uses Alltel's numerous towers in the area so these two rank at the same level. From what I understand, Verizon is putting up a tower in Lynchburg very soon which will bring full digital coverage for Verizon customers. I highly recommend Alltel or Verizon in the Lynchburg area. I would strongly caution against Sprint or TMobile in this area. They will get fine coverage in certain spots but not consistently like Alltel and Verizon. I have several friends and coworkers who have service through Sprint or TMobile who wish they could switch right now.

Haven't lost a call in 3 months. I get near perfect signal everywhere! My co-workers have to go outside to make calls but I can call crystal clear from my office in the center of the building. I'm a Liberty University staff member; if you go to Liberty get Alltel!

Throughout Lynchburg, Charlottesville, and Richmond, Alltel has near-perfect reception. Calls are dropped occasionally, and you hit patches of roaming along 64 E to Richmond, but aside from that, no complaints but expense of plans and long wait for service in stores.

I have been very happy with T-Mobile since I have been using them for the past month or so. I get 4-g coverage almost everywhere over town. Forest is a less, and out in Gladys is less as well, but I have been very happy with them.

I think as of right now, Verizon has the best reception in the general area... I wish others would improve. I used to have AT&T and had to leave them.. I was one of the many people who had to leave their phone on the windowsill when I got home just to get barely 1 bar of coverage. I switched to Straighttalk (Verizon) and had great coverage all over town and in buildings... I never worried about a signal, but Straighttalk is not a very good wireless company, and I left them after a long time for T-Mobile. I have been very happy with T-mobile, and their coverage is almost as good as Verizon.

Love T-mobile's coverage in lynchburg. It has gotten significantly better in the year I've lived here. T-Mobile usually drags its feet on rolling out 3G coverage, but the lone wolf in this case is AT&T. Upgrading next week and I'm sticking with T-Mobile because of their 3G coverage maps. Looks good!

All around Lynchburg I have perfect service. Even at LU when I am inside I have pretty decent service accept for in the heart of North Campus which is where I will be lucky if I get 1 bar. For LU students, SPRINT is definitely the best service there is!

I am concerned about my signal once Verizon takes over Alltel next week. I heard there is no tower in Lynchburg and the reception is horrible. Will they use Alltel's towers to give customers the same reception? My contract is up and I am considering changing carriers.

I have great coverage in the entire Lynchburg area... is just listed this particular section because live in the area and do not have home phones... we depend on our cell phones for communication inside our homes and it works fantastic. made the mistake of going to Alltel for 2 weeks to try to save on cost and the coverage was horrific (same phone)

I have had Alltel for more than two years and have had no problems with reception. It's the best wireless company I have had. We only have cellphones with no landline phone at all so it is very important to get good reception. I would really like to switch to TMobile to get better rates but am a little leary to do so.

I have had service with US Cellular, SunCom, and now Verizon. The Verizon reception is the best. I travel in several states. I wish Verizon could open here in Lynchburg but I understand Alltel will not allow it. My cell phone number is long distance from Lynchburg.

Coverage is really good all around the city, but I live in Poplar Forest / Rainbow Forest area and the coverage is good while I'm in the house, but driving from the city to my home the coverage gets spotty at the bottom of two hills and I've lost calls at that time. Otherwise, I'm pleased, and still a little worried about more spotty areas areound town. I travel a lot and there's blanket coverage wherever I travel (D.C., Utah, Atlanta, yada yada yada) That's why I got it... plus cooler phones than Alltel.

Coverage is good in most areas, but has gotten worse in the last two years. There is no coverage in most of Rivermont, near either hospital, and it drops calls everytime on Lakeside and Enterprise near Wyndhurst. I will have 5 bars in some areas and still not be able to make or keep a call. ANd then, three seconds later, I can. Very frustrating.
