We have 5 different phones in the Midlothian area and end up with dropped calls all the time. No reception at all at the local high school. Service has gotten much worse over the last year. Very disappointed
AT&T has at least 3 to 4 bar and Nextel has at least 3 to 4 bars out in this area and Verizon has only 0 to 2 bars and many dropped calls. when I call Verizon they said that a AT&T tower could be blocking the reception path for Verizon.
While my wife has Verizon which has no service in our house, I have AT&T which has 4 bars without a problem. I've had service with them since they were Suncom which I have to say wasnt so hot. But now it seems reception is a lot better.
Nextel sucks in Deer Run Subdivison. For almost 8 months I was getting post cards from them telling me in the next 30 days my service was going to get better. NOT... .The signal comes and goes and is very weak or no signal at all most of the time. I have tried Verizon and netlos and have been pretty happy with them both. In a way I guess this can be a good thing with Nextel seeing how the company I work for is paying for it... LOL
My wife is still under contract with Sprint but I just switched my line over to Alltel since my contract was up. The difference has been night and day. It seems like Sprint and also T-Mobile focus their coverage on Rt. 288 connecting 64 and 95 and then through Richmond. But the Alltel coverage gives us 5 bars at our house where we still have 1 with Sprint. Really, all over Midlothian and into Richmond the coverage has been very good with Alltel, even indoors it doesn't drop off as much as I was use to with Sprint. I've not dropped a single call since switching over which is a nice change and we can use it inside! Overall I'm happy with Alltel and we will soon be switching her line over too. I've also compared my signal to my brother's Verizon line here at the house and out around the city and Alltel even out-does them in this area as far as coverage bars go in our comparison. That was surprising to me because Verizon charges more for fewer minutes and no circle so I just assumed it might be better but apparently not. Alltel's family plans will even save us a little money from Sprint since we'll probably drop minutes since we don't need as many with My Circle. Overall, I have just been pleasantly surprised and wanted to find a website to spread the word since I've already told my neighbors the story.
T Mobile has the right plan prices, but their reception is absolutely spotty in major metropolitan areas around Richond VA. I routinely drop calls off of 195 in downtown, Powhite parkway near chippenham, and Midlo tpk. Also I drop calls on chippenham parkway between. Jefferson davis and HUll stret exits. Coverage in Varina is suspect as well as Tappahannock, VA and Roanoke Rapids NC. I am in sales and need solid coverage, but since I have to pay for my service out of pocket I am stuck with T Mobile. Crappy coverage, but I get what I pay for.
Sprint has the worst customer service both on their 800 number and especially in the Midlothian Turnpike store. Be prepared to wait 2-3 hours for any problem. Reception similar to walkie talkie or only one side hears conversation. I have two phones with them and will drop as soon as contract ends.
