Always have full 3G all around CNU and surrounding Newport News. My friends have Sprint and AT&T and they don't even get service in the dorms, have to go outside for a phone call.

To be bluntly honest, the only reason I switched to Alltel is because my work pays for a line, and with Alltel I could include all my personal numbers in My Circle, not go over my minute balance, and not have to pay for my own personal cell line. I had Sprint for about 4 years, and coverage wasn't bad. Signal would go up and down a lot and there were a lot of places the signal faded down to nothing inside. But now, with alltel, I was extremely surprised at how well the coverage is here. I can use it in the stairwell or elevator at work. Brick and lack of windows doesn't seem to phase the signal as much as it use to with my former provider. Alltel does drop down to a couple bars in areas where Sprint would cut out. Pretty much everywhere I've been, inside or out, Alltel has worked for me. The signal stays usable in most parts of large buildings like Wal-Mart and Patrick Henry Mall also which is tough for any provider. Switching my line over to Alltel worked out great for me.

Ok, I have had T-Mobile for like 6 years. The reception is ok but not good enough, especially in willamsburg. Finally after giving my account away to a family member I said goodbye and went to alltel--the best decision I ever made. Wow, I get reception everywhere! in places I wouldnt dream off with tmobile! even where I work!there my circle is the best, I got 900 minutes I hardly touch with me using my ten friends and mobile to mobile free nights and weekeneds-- I really recomend alltel!

i have had T-Mobile for 5 years I have never really had a problem with service. great reception in my apartment / townhouse and around hampton roads. I have been at a friends house in va beach 1 mile from the beach and didn't get service really at all. if I did it dropped me quick other than that I love T-Mobile great customer service whenever I have had to call them

No problems making / receiving calls in my condo. Can carry a call from Denbigh to VA Beach without dropping. Did have some spots on RT 17 S in Isle of White where I picked up no svc. I also use a Verizon v710 and svc is excellent on it as well. It had svc south of the James when my Alltel didnt.

Travel all over with my job, only real complant with Sprint is a lack of decent phones. Been in Texas and got 3 - 4 bars in a car with a person on Verizon with no signal. Noticed most Sprint complaints are on Samsung phones, mgiht be the older phones or you may need to swtich to newer phones.

i have reception almost everywhere I go except for walmart's. The air card that they sell now is great too

I never have a problem getting reception. Others with different service have trouble getting a signal in places where I don't. Rarely dropped calls. Can talk through bridge tunnels. Even get a signal inside of most buildings. I even get a signal at the Jamestown 4H near Surry. Verizon has horrible phone selection and none with wi-fi so that you can use your phone as a modem. They also lack smartphones with quad capabilities for use in international markets when traveling abroad. Aside from that, I have no complaints out of 7 years of service.

Good (at elast usable) at home and most places around Newport News. That's why I chose the T -- nothing worse than a bucket of minutes you can't use due to no service! I note though that signal seems to be nil around McManus and Denbigh Blvd.+ / - a block or two. As with all the GHz stuff though, penetration into buildings at ground level (other than wood structures) tends to be poor. I have yet to find ANY carrier with the kind of coverage one gets in a major city like Detroit or NYC however. Too many trees and not enough towers in Newport News!

Verizon is the best by far in this area. If you want reliable service in Hampton Roads, Verizon is the only way to go.

Generally good reception from Verizon and much improved over Sprint (switched a year ago). I think Verizon wins big in this area.

Poor in Walmart stores. Poor in link between here and Denbigh area (5 miles north).

This area has long been a issue fo Alltel to provide good digital service. Numerous calls to Alltel to improve have made little progress. And dont even hope for good in building coverage as it won't happen. Many users many phones all the same issues. Funny thing Alltels orginial office for the area was located in this business park for lots of major business such as Canon USA.

I don't know if it's because my phone is so old, or the service just isn't very good in the area... Outside it usually works decent, drop calls occasionally, inside my appartment it's terrible. In a two floor townhouse on the top floor (no special sheilding or anything) I get dropped calls all the time, downstairs, i'm lucky if I have signal. If I am on the phone downstairs it's usually: "hello? can you hear me?" downstairs Alltel and Verizon have some problems usually too though.

works ok if your outside. Once you enter a building or go inside your house or work, I get dropped calls and lots of "hello, r u there?" When your outside though, Cingular is good...

The phone constantly drops calls. I am lucky to ever see three bars and when I do, they don't last. I have been a long time customer, living elsewhere, but here I am just waiting for my contract to expire.

Reception has gotten worse each year. In doors poor reception. During the storm (Isabelle) NO SERVICE!

sometime I get 2 bars outside but when I enter my house I have to walk around looking for a signal. I,m lucky if I can get 1 bar and shall I say 3G what is that. Wish I had stayed in the CNU area where I was. Come on AT&T u can do better.

Rarely get bars in the house. They come and go. Going out to the street sometimes works. It's not just T-Mobile, neighbors with other carriers have the same problem - it's the location near the James River.

AT&T just erected a new cell phone tower about 1.5 miles away but reception has not improved
