I either have to go upstairs to my bedroom or outside the house to talk, and I still have plenty of dropped calls in both those areas. My mother is on Verizon, her old roomate had AT&T, and both of them had exceptionally strong signals. Looking to switch to AT&T when my contract runs up in December. Yeeesssss...

I moved back to Richmond 2 years ago and foolishly traded in my Nokia phone with AT&T / Cingular for a Sanyo with Sprint, thinking I was in a major city again and should have no problems whatsoever with cell service. WRONG! I had far superior national coverage and almost zero dropped calls in the wilds of Northern Idaho with AT&T (and later in Providence, RI) on my Nokia phone, plus its battery lasted 5 hours. In my apartment I have to go upstairs even to get an erratic 3-4 bars with Sprint. Dropped calls are frequent. Dead spots are numerous. Coverage wasn't much better inside my office at Glenside / Forest. I've even missed some important meetings with people when in the Annapolis area because I did not get their calls live (the phone did not ring), nor was there an indication they'd left a voice mail until THE NEXT DAY! Finally, my contract is up and I am free to say sayonara to Sprint and do my homework this time. I read Sprint lost over a million customers last year alone. Meanwhile, in the online consumer surveys, T-Mobile and Verizon consistently tie in the Mid-Atlantic states as having the best service and coverage, so I'm surprised some people in the 23226 area haven't liked them either. I realize the phone makes a difference, too, of course. As irrelevant as it sounds, I HATE Alltel's commercials, so I don't think I could go with them purely out of principle! Bottom line, based on my experience, don't go with Sprint.

It's not just Sprint; according to T-Mobile and AT&T's websites their reception is shaky at best. I cannot get a straight answer from Verizon on their reception in this area to save my life.

I've had Sprint for about 10 years and never much liked it. Rarely can I be in the car traveling and not experience dropped calls or bad reception. Reception in West Creek (Goochland) is horrible. Taveling along the Wiley Bridge near Stoney Point is a guaranteed drop call. Reception in my house in Westover Hills is OK, and better than Sprint. When my contract expires in August, I'll be switching carriers. Bottom line: I do not recommend Sprint.

The signal fluctuates terribly. It will go from full bars to none in the same spot. Sprint customers service is bad. All they want to do is sell you another phone or up sell you on your plan. They are sales people not technical assistance folks.

I have been happy with Sprint in the past. Now the coverage and the service is going downhill. Often I can't call my spouse and she can't call me. We go straight to voice mail even if we have signal(which is weird). And Sprint support really talked about 'holes' in the coverage area.

I moved to this location about four miles south of Short Pump Town Center from Northern Virginia last weekend. I'm going to have to break my contract and change carriers, because the service is virtually unusable inside my second-floor, wood-frame apartment using either of our two (different model) phones, and also at my office near Jefferson Davis Hwy. and Route 288. I can only get service if I go outside. Two phone resets (supposed to make the phone recognize the nearest roaming tower) have had no effect.

In my neighborhood there is absolutely no reception from Sprint. Even when out of the house, I still average at least one dropped call per day.

Little to no Sprint reception here. Same with Verizon. We tested a bunch of phones and Alltel and Nextel both get good bars here.

Dropped calls constantly. Reception seems to be good during travels around the state, but very bad in the home office. They have towers all over this city and can't give me good reception where 295, 64, and 95 meet. I'm changing to Verizon. Spring customer service is terrible. Spent my whole afternoon in the Broad St.location, where there were 30 people waiting in line, to have them tell me something I already knew. The assistant manager told me that they are always that busy... .you think they would hire more than the 6 people to work the floor.

I've used Sprint PCS service in the Richmond, VA area for the past 5 years. I also travel all over the state of Virginia. I can actually say the coverage has gotten better over time. I am very pleased with my service and don't see a need for adding the roaming package. The most interesting thing I noticed about Sprint's serice was about 2 1/2 years ago. Even though the entire city lost power during the hurricane, I never lost service.
