Sine July, 2005, service has diminished. Previously had ATT Wireless TDMA phone, and Cingular advised me that I needed to upgrade to a GSM phone. I did, and no difference. Performance is horrible, and often have too litle signal to place a call.

West of Rolling Rd.on the Fairfax County Pkwy. is a huge deadzone. The closest AT&T / Cingular towers appear to be in Newington and Burke so this geographically valley has no service. It's a real pain since I live and work in this area and the federal government issued cell phones are through AT&T / Cingular.

it's amazing. as soon as I make the left turn from backlick rd onto the fairfax county parkway south, I am usually unable to complete a call all the way until Rt. 50 in Chantilly! (and then on rte 50 it's not terribly good either) if I do, I am in Analog Roam mode (yes, my phone is about 2 years old, and a kyocera, to boot) and it is so static filled the conversation is useless as there is no way to speak through it. However, while I am on Fullerton or Backlick or even near my govt buildg on Boston blvd where I work, the reception is average, about 2-4 bars (out of 4). I cannot get a decent signal inside my building on boston blvd, and have to walk outside in the wide open parkinglot to get anything. it seems like while driving on the pkwy that the higher elevated areas of the pkwy are less-than-ok but at least able to communicate with your caller... sucks. I LOVE my Alltel service when I am down in Virginia Beach and Norfolk area, before moving to this area, only about 2 dropped or failed calls EVER. now - almost every day. Chantilly is where I live, it's alright out there, not inside my apt, but fairlakes and reston and tysons is good -- especially good in sterling etc..

I'm in Daventry Park (not Daventry). I usually have one bar if I set the phone by the east-facing window, and sometimes it goes up to 2 bars. As soon as I move away from the window I get zero. I guess I'll try verizon.

I absoulutely hate Nextel. I have ZERO reception 95% of the time, and when I do get a few bars, I have to be careful not to move the phone around too much or it will drop my call. Even when I'm in my car I have to hold the phone beside the window with my earpiece in--I might as well NOT use my earpiece. I pay $85 a month for a service I use 25% of the time. They should pay me for having to deal with them! I had Sprint before and had reception everywhere. The only reason why I switched to Nextel was because Customer Service with Sprint was horrible and my fiance had Nextel in Atlanta and said service was great. Now he's been PCS'd to Tampa, FL and has ZERO recepetion. I contacted Nextel several times about this problem and they told me it was my phone. One time before I took it to a service center and they told me it was my phone--not the service. So they gave me a new phone. Well, I contacted Nextel back and told them I was still having issues and they told me it was my phone. After explaining to Tech Support that I rec'vd a new phone, they told me "Those are refurbished phones. They don't give new phones out." She suggested I purchase a new phone. Needless to say, my contract is over with... .I'm doing my research to look into another service provider.

AT&T Coverage on Rolling Rd. from Rt. 1 to Braddock Rd. is horrible. Do not subscribe to AT&T if you frequently travel this route.

Daventry / Old Keene Mill, Springfield, VA 22152 |

I have tried Sprint, Cingular, Nextel, and AT&T. I have not tried Verizon and T-Mobile. Also, I have not tried GSM. Reception is poor, 0 to 1 bar throughout Daventry Community Association which is located on Hunter Village, sandwiched between Old Keene Mill and Fairfax County Parkway. The Daventry Board of Directors actually rejected a bid by one major carrier to install a tower disguised as a tree. They did so without surveying the 1,000 homeowners who live in Daventry. If I had cell reception, I would cancel my home phone, and so would 80 percent of my neighbors.

OK outdoors in the winter when the foilage is gone. Standing in the doorway of the townhome - maybe one bar. Spring Summer the reception marginally better. I rried T-Mobile, Cingular, AT&T and Verizon had the best reception, such as it is. Wireless is West Springfield is just plain awful.

Just about non-existent. Every now and then, you may hit a spot that you can call but expect the call to be dropped.

My T616 is awful, I am always at 2 bars or less. But, with my previous phone Nokia 6200 the signal strength was much better. But even with this is does not compare w/ Verizon. My co-worker has a 6200 as well and would be able to use her inside a very secured inside, inside the bowels of a larger building. But, not even my 6200 could compete with the Verizon coverage. Cingular is very dissappointing and I will soon rid myself of them.

Average to below average reception inside buildings, perfect to good outside. GSM 1900 MHz cannot penetrate buildings well. For Northern Virginia, Verizon provides the best service.

Very poor reception in most areas along Fairfax County Parkway...lucky to have one bar. In and around Springfield is spotty at best..riding the metro is frustrating when I see everyone else with a good signal and I have the red light blinking.
Plus, cingular customer service is HORRIBLE. I made 3 calls and spent a total of 2.5 hours on hold...I"m just waiting until my contract ends to get out.
