I always have a signal, hardly ever drops calls. I've been up and down the East coast and the only place I've been where I didn't have a signal or a very weak signal is rural Pennsylvania. Alltel has great service, but their phone selection is kinda crappy.
I was originally with SunCom but didn't re-sign with Cingular when they bought my contract or something. But an unlimited or high minute plan with Cingular would have cost a fortune. I first switched to nTelos but coverage in general wasn't great in Virginia Beach. I took the phone back during the trial period and tried Alltel. Alltel's plans aren't unlimited but they have the unlimited calling to any 10 numbers with my circle so it's basically unlimited calling for me. The coverage around here is excellent also. The phone is just about always on full signal, it doesn't matter if I'm at the apartment building or at Wal-Mart or at one of the malls or anywhere really. I also know Regent is covered great because I live pretty close to there and drive by it every day. I don't even look at the signal meter anymore I just expect to be able to make a call. Overall, I would say Alltel is the way to go around here because the coverage is just perfect around here. It's much better than even others I know with Verizon or Cingular and they have some good plans for people like me that need about unlimited minutes but they also have a lot of basic plans too and pre-paid. I guess I've become sort of a fan but I'm just happy with the product and service I got and am enjoying the experience after the trouble I had elsewhere.
Even indoors, the Alltel signal is great around here. Not even indoors can I remember the signal dropping down below half way and I can make or receive a call anywhere. Full signal at my aparment village and about everywhere in Virginia Beach I normally travel. The hospital where I work (Sentara Virginia Beach) is really bad about blocking a signal but it works throughout with Alltel. I've heard Alltel is on that 850 MHz which means it penetrates better indoors and goes on further from the tower. I'm not sure exactly but the entire area around here is covered great, even problem areas others report with other providers. I'm on a family plan and get 2 lines, unlimited My Circle (Any 10 numbers), free nights, free weekends, and 900 daytime minutes for $69.99. Much better than I could find from any other provider.
I always get great reception all over Virginia Beach and all of Hampton Roads really. I've never had any billing issues but customer service has been real nice and patient helping me figure out My Account online. Always on full signal consistently in area. Full signal at the Pembroke mall, at my apartment, down by the oceanside, and at Mt. Trashmore. Inside Lynnhaven mall the signal drops down to 3 bars but I can still make and hold a call without a problem throughout the whole thing. Very happy with service and I would recommend it to others.
I loved Alltel for the first year, then started getting bad reception in Richmond where most of my family lives. Also have recently received bills with a lot of overage minutes which I tried to dispute but was told their computers are always accurate. Unable to resolve, so I'm looking to switch to nTelos or TMobile.
I go to ODU but am living in Virginia Beach near Providence but travel throughout the city and Alltel coverage throughout the area has been great. In Virginia Beach I generally stay on at least 4 bars and 5 most of the time. But I haven't noticed anywhere I even drop down to 3. The reception has been great and so has the call quality. I've never had a dropped call here. The coverage and prices are top notch. That My Circle thing is a good deal. Customer service has been great too. I would definitely recommend Alltel for this region.
I cannot use my phone almost anywhere in my neighborhood, especially in my house. Have complained to Alltel but was given "Oh well" They tell me I'm right in the middle of 3 towers so I should get good reception. Wrong. I have tried several ways of trying to fix this with Alltel but they will not budge. Basicly they told me to either buy a new phone at the full price, I'm 7 months away from finishing a 2 year contract, or pay the $400 dollars to get out of the contract, I have 2 phone lines, and go to another company. I have been an Alltel customer for about 12 years now and this is what I get. Thanks Alltel!
