I go to ODU but am living in Virginia Beach near Providence but travel throughout the city and Alltel coverage throughout the area has been great. In Virginia Beach I generally stay on at least 4 bars and 5 most of the time. But I haven't noticed anywhere I even drop down to 3. The reception has been great and so has the call quality. I've never had a dropped call here. The coverage and prices are top notch. That My Circle thing is a good deal. Customer service has been great too. I would definitely recommend Alltel for this region.

Suncom AT&T drops calls consistently on Laskin Road, Rt 264, General Booth Blvd and more.... For those not from the area, the first road mentioned is a main Va Beach thoroughfare and to top it off the drop call location is about 2 blocks from a Suncom storefront. Frequent complaints have done nada. Also, voice messages may take up to several days to receive. You could have your phone on while in Target (where there is no reception at all) someone could call, leave a message and you wouldn't know for several days! Also, in recent months it has taken multiple dial outs to actually complete a call. DO NOT USE SUNCOM - THEY SUCK.

The only time I don't get service (and this is over by the Wawa on Rosemont Rd... ... I live across the street) is when I have my phone in my pocket for more than 10 minutes. Other than that I have not a lick of problem with it!

I always have a signal, hardly ever drops calls. I've been up and down the East coast and the only place I've been where I didn't have a signal or a very weak signal is rural Pennsylvania. Alltel has great service, but their phone selection is kinda crappy.

I have a 3 bar TX signal and a 1 bar EVDO signal on my cell phone. I recently purchased a Verizon broadband modem (air card) for Internat access which uses the EVDO signal for broadband speeds. If I plug in the booster antenna that came with the modem and put the antenna in a window, I can achieve broadband speeds on my modem.

T-Mobile (at least HTC models: Dash and Wing) has been nearly perfect every place I've been in VB: from home down to and including intersection of Holland and PA Rd. I've even had excellent service in the Lynnhaven Mall area (where Cingular and Verizon have NO service). Buffalo, NY, and southern Ontario have also been excellent. Limited travel to Europe has also provided excellent service. I've never been without service. I must add, however that the Blackberry Pearl did occasionally not have a signal. HTC + T-Mobile = excellent service!

Even indoors, the Alltel signal is great around here. Not even indoors can I remember the signal dropping down below half way and I can make or receive a call anywhere. Full signal at my aparment village and about everywhere in Virginia Beach I normally travel. The hospital where I work (Sentara Virginia Beach) is really bad about blocking a signal but it works throughout with Alltel. I've heard Alltel is on that 850 MHz which means it penetrates better indoors and goes on further from the tower. I'm not sure exactly but the entire area around here is covered great, even problem areas others report with other providers. I'm on a family plan and get 2 lines, unlimited My Circle (Any 10 numbers), free nights, free weekends, and 900 daytime minutes for $69.99. Much better than I could find from any other provider.
