Though I get decent 3-5 elsewhere, my nearest tower is to my south at the County Building. Seems that its also the Police tower as well, so maybe thats why I get 0-2 at home outside and 0-1 inside.
Amazingly, I have had the same carrier going on 5 years now. I used to live over on Dale Boulevard / Minnieville Rd.in Dale City and I would only get 1 or 2 bars inside my house. If I stepped outside I would be lucky to get 3 or 4 bars. It was never anything major, so I didn't cancel my service. I moved over to Woodbridge along Rt. 1 behind Marumsco Plaza about 3 years ago and was surprised that my signal strength actually got better, even after upgrading phones about 2 times over the past few years. Indoors I usually get 5 bars, have perfect call reception, no dropped calls, and no delays with sending or receiving texts, IM's or emails. I do find that when I walk into certain stores my signal drops dramatically or I do not have a signal at all, but I think this has very little to do with T-mobile.
There are many times a day that I say I can't stand Cingular / AT&T coverage. I am on my second phone and I still get a lot of dropped calls and even though I am near Washington D.C., Cingular has many holes in coverage. I am going to dump Cingular as soon as I and dump them. You call this cell service?
I've never had any problems with service in my area. Whether it be in or outdoors service and reception is of high quality. Bars tend to fluctuate some traveling on 95 but never completely lost signal.
I just rented a house in Ashland community. I have 1 bar and cannot place calls from the house all the way to Rt. 95 (about 1-2 miles) and, like magic, have a full 5 bars. Wish I knew this before I signed the lease.
I had a a Cingular Motorola for many years, but the reception was lousy in the house. If you moved at all, the call would drop. Spotty service along 495 in northern va and on 95 south. I recently signed up with Verizon and I have had excellent service throughout no. va. No dropped calls or dead spots so far.
With Cingular, my reception is perfect at my home. Going down Hoadly Road, it craps out at Hoadly Rd.and Dale Blvd., but that is about the only dead spot around. When I visit my friends in Montclair, the reception is really bad to absolute zero.
The service goes in and out and you loose your call half way through. It is not the phone it is new. The service sucks. Dont ever get Nextel they stink with customer service and service in general.
I only get one bar in my house, but 3 bars outside. Amazingly, with one bar I get crystal clear reception with no dropped calls. Traveling up and down I-95 results in strong reception through Alexandria. Take Minnieville south from Old Bridge and you lose all T-Mobile reception very quickly.
