Just switched to Cingular. Reception in town and the surrounding area is perfect (5 bars). However, driving on route 100 / 107 and then a few places on 89 and 91 you loose coverage for about 1 mile or so. The dead spots are disapointing, but heck, its the best I have found. I use to have Verizon which got no service, except in Killington, Burlington, and Rutland. Cingular with GSM is the best way to go if you live or spend alot of time in Vermont or any other Rural area.

I moved to Vermont about three years ago with a Verizon phone in tow. Once I realized that Vermont was the forgotten land of cellular service, I discovered Nextel. The phone service has been head and shoulders above anything else in Vermont. I travel nationally and have found myself happy to have only one phone to carry. Now granted, the customer service is HORRIBLE, but I need a phone that works while I'm home. Let's see what happens as Sprint phases out the cellular over iden and leaves it as only the two way part of thier network.

TMobile works decently in / around the SoRo-Sharon area but it is roaming (on the "USA890" network, which is Unicel). Warning - I moved here from out of state with an out of state TMobile number and after two years in SoRo, TMobile threatened to deactivate my account for excessive roaming (even though roaming was free on my plan). Don't plan on using TMobile in this area for a prolonged period of time - switch to AT&T, Unicel, or Verizon.

Coverage in this area is REAL spotty. It goes from full reception to zip in a matter of 300 feet.

As of about 3 / 26 / 06, the whole area seems to have gotten a boost in Verizon service.... wonder if someone put up a new tower.

Spotty Service all the way around. You would think in a town with the only Law School in Vermont we could get decent cell and internet services - Think again. But since you can talk on the phone, you sure spend a lot more time taking in the beauty that IS VERMONT! KEEP CHARGING
