4 Out of 5 (4 stars) | Merry Canyon Road, Chumstick, Campsite @ 3300ft El | Van Creek, Leavenworth, WA 98826 |

Heres 3 years of experience using cellphones, signal boosters, data, wifi-hotspot in the woods at 3300 ft, 10 miles North of Leavenworth, WA. I have no direct line of sight to any tower, there is a 3700 ft mountain between me and the tower. I tried my antenna 40 feet up in a tree but reception turned out to be better @ 20 ft up, so I assume there is some reflection from the ground that is necessary. I get 0-2 bars in my location with booster OFF. With Wilson SOHO65 signal booster (on 12v) with a YAGI antenna pointed directly at Leavenworth; I get 4-5 bars and can even do internet in the woods. Sometimes I VPN into my work computer. If it connects to the "E" network I cycle to airplane mode and it comes back 4G and all is good for data. Interestingly, on the "E" network (always 5 bars boosted) it never drops a call but the 4G network will consistently drop EVERY call after about 2 or 3 minutes. So for data I use 4G and for voice calls I have to trick it into using E. To use 4G I cycle the airplane mode inside the boosted area (near the output antenna). I use 4G for internet or texting photos. To get to "E" for a voice call, I have to walk AWAY from the booster. Then cycle airplane mode and wait for "E" network to come up, (0-2 bars) then walk back into the boosted area and it's 5 bars of "E" (and no dropped calls). By "4G" I am referring to ATT's 4G (which is actually just 3G with a partial woodie.) My iPhone 4S cannot do 4G LTE. However my wife has a 4G LTE phone (the 5) but out there she only gets normal 4G (=3G), it never shows "4GLTE". 4G LTE would be a significant upgrade, but the boosters for LTE are currently about $1400. The Wilson SOHO65 (4G) booster is about $500 and the YAGI directional antenna was $50. You may be asking whether the 4G LTE phone would get LTE if I had an "LTE booster". I don't know. I'm not to thrilled about spending $1400 more for another booster just to find out. At this point I don't know if there's any LTE signal in the area. Hope this helps, --T 3 / 30 / 2014

Verizon reception was great two years ago when I signed my contract. I do not know what has changed with Verizon since then but my neighbors (who all have Verizon as well) agree that the data has slowed down tremendously. Im hoping to find better coverage elsewhere...

Reception is pretty good for voice and SMS. However, Data reception is poor to say the least. Outside, you may get reception, but inside any building there is no reception. I can sit next to an AT&T or Sprint phone user and they are streaming data no problem. Also, driving just south of town along the river, there is limited data coverage for this new phone.

I am local. In Leavenworth proper Unicel, which has lease agreements with Cingular and TMobile (GMS system) and Verizon work about the same. Half of Leavenworth is covered by Verizon and half by Sprint. Sprint is the most recent, so has few towers. Unicel has plenty of towers locally and in Leavenworth itself. So the shadows vary when underneath the towers. Most of us are with Verizon. I had to switch from Unicel because on occasion I would have missed calls when I shouldn't have. I recently tried them again after my 2 year contract with Verizon expired. Again I could be in the exact same spot and range from no service to three bars. They had no explanation for this two years ago and now even though they have switched to the GMS system they still seem to have the same issue. The Chumstick and Blewitt Pass has better service with Unicel versus Verizon. Nobody will have service in the Tumwater canyon or Icicle canyon except for a few pockets. Towards Stevens Pass on US HWY 2 Verizon has the better service. I haven't much experience with Sprint. I know of no locals who use Sprint. Unicel has by far the better service plans compared to Verizon, Cingular, Tmobile, etc.. I wish they worked for me. I have had no problems with Verizon Service. When there are a lot of tourist in town the GMS system can get overloaded and be a problem that Verizon doesn't have.

Verizon

1 Out of 5 (1 star) | Icicle Rd. | East Leavenworth Rd., Leavenworth, WA 98826 |

Verizon covers downtown Leavenworth, but not much else. There is no signal in Tumwater Canyon nor Icicle Rd, past mile post 2. Reception at Ski Hill is marginal. Nextel seems to cover these areas much better than Verizon.
