all VZW phones in this area are garbage for signal; 1x data only, hard to have a voice call without dropouts and interference, it's historic. However, last week (04-07-11) my 3g reception issues seem to have ceased! I'm getting one solid bar, and no switching back to 1x data... SOLID 3G! Go VZW! It's so much nicer to rule the air.

Just in the last two weeks, I've been receiving dropped calls on EVERY call I make, as well as complaints from people on the other end that I am cutting out. My bars can range from 1 to 3 and this has never been a problem in the past. I hope that Verizon will fix it because I still have 5 months left on my contract and I can't even finish one cell call.

I have Verizon LG Dare for less than a month and AT&T Samsung A737 for over a year.(I have both Verizon and AT&T because of the nature of my job). after reading a comment about the poor reception in this location I went and checked it out because I was concerned about the Dare's performance. Here what I found:AT&T has a strong 3G reception in the five-six blocks radius,so I think you should have no problems with voice calls or high speed data connection. Verizon data EVDO reception is spotty, I had three bars on the corner of Trenton st. and 13 Ave sw, to no bars next to the school between 10th and 11th Ave sw.,Verizon 1X reception showed one to two bars on the Dare,(four bars mean full reception). Call quality on Verizon's LG was very good all the way cross sw Henderson st to Roxbury st., and downloading V-Cast videos rated fair using 1X connection, yesterday I was able to make calls in Mill Creek area with no bars. If you go to Verizon store inside S. Center Mall you'll see the reception(# of bars) varies from one phone to another even though they are next to each other!. thanks and good luck.

Carrier is Verizon - both of us (LG user and Blackberry user) have 0 to 3 bars (both inside and out) if careful where we attempt calls from - but without warning calls regularly dropped 5 minutes,10 even 30 minutes into the call receptions drops to nothing! Had AT&T before - not much better. Verizon customer service has been solid willing to let us out of contract - but where do we go from here?!?!? Incredibly frustrating. Work offers cost breaks with both Verizon and AT&T but neither one provide adequate reception in our home and neighborhood. Would love to hear what provider offers good reception in West-SW Seattle.

West Shoreline has had very poor coverage for years now. Verizon Wireless cannot commit to fixing this. They will even allow you to leave without early termination fees. No 3G or EV. Barely any regular service. On top of this, they typically cripple their phones with Verizon "features". Try installing a browser on your phone or using your own ring tones; impossible.

Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't! Lots of dropped calls, or very poor voice quality! Reviewing my detailed calling records from Verizon shows that calls do NOT originate here in West Seattle, but rather in Vashon Island, Port Orchard, Silverdale and Pouslbo - 15+ miles away across the Puget Sound! Verizon customer service offered little assistance other than to say that it shows on their computer that coverage here should be good... yeah, lots of cell sites, but they're all BELOW this neighborhood. Its not about distance to the cell sites, but coverage from those sites! NO LOCAL COVERAGE at the top of the hill.

Calls are dropped ALL THE TIME. I have never held a conversation for more than 90 seconds with Verizon in the Blue Ridge / North Beach area. The main issue appears to be that as a result of poor coverage, towers that pick up (and subsequently drop) my calls are located on Hood Canal, usually in Kingston. Due to the distance over Puget Sound, calls drop. I recommend switching to another carrier if you live in this area, or get a home phone line for calls at your residence. When I contacted Verizon, they informed me they have no plans to add towers in this area in the foreseeable future. One side note, for my phone at least, is that when you look at the number of bars it will read 3-4, but when you place a call the bars instantly fall to nothing and the call is then dropped. Adverse weather appears to affect the ability to reach the towers in Kingston... bottom line, don't use Verizon anywhere in this area!

I tried all the other companies. One of them never got reception even once! The others were Poor, One Bar, Two at best. That's because my building is concrete and I live in the shadow of KIRO-TV and CISCO; buildings with microwave dishes on their roofs. I calls this north end of Belltown a 'Concrete Canyon'. Since signing up with Verizon four years ago, it's been smooth sailing from inside my apt! No dropped calls at all and crystal clear reception. How good is that? The only time I've ever had a dropped call has been from my car (parked, never driving) beside an industrial structure. Even then, I'm not sure if it's my cellular service's fault or the cellular service on the other end. Also, with only one exception, Verizon customer service has always treated me exceptionally well. I can't imagine that they are only rated #2. They always end calls by asking if there was anything they could improve upon and I let them know that it is a pleasure doing business with them.

Poor reception. Have had dropped calls and phone will switch to "extended network" and "searching for service" frequently. Talked with Verizon technical support who were nice, but not very helpful. My phone has most recent software updates and current roaming programming. Verizon still says it is probably my phone, but I am not so sure. My housemate switched from Verizon to Sprint because he had too many dropped calls. My boyfriend has Verizon and when he is at my house he also only has 1 bar of reception. Pretty good reception with a few small dead spots. Occasionally the phone will notify me of a new voicemail after the phone never rang in the first place. I can hear the reception come in and out as I walk around my apartment. Its a lot better than my old T-Mobile phone though. Remember, reception has as much to do with the PHONE as it does with the service. Verizon's customer service is amazing! However, I might switch to Sprint because I want a phone they offer. They are both CDMA networks so it might be possible to use an unlocked Sprint phone on Verizon. Thats what I hope for anyway.

I hate Verizon. I am going to be stuck with a penalty for leaving early but it'll be worth it to dump them. I couldn't even program my phone from home - had to walk two blocks to get a signal. To make matters worst my company leases one of the EV-DO wireless cards for my laptop and it gets no signal whatsoever here. My prior carrier (Sprint) worked fine in my neighborhood. Verizon customer service agents were nicer on the phone than the Sprint folks - but they couldn't do anything about my lousy / nonexsistant signal. I replaced my 1st phone (V710) with the e815 in hopes of improving reception but it made no difference. buh-bye, Verizon.

Can only send and receive reliably on top floor of house at west facing front windows. Outside is spotty and unreliable too. Entire neighborhood seems to have far worse reception than the geography would warrant. Hard not to contemplate there being a lower investment in infrastructure in this predominately minority area of the city than in other whiter neighborhoods. That said, I find reception poor in many areas and am amazed at how much time my phone is showing "Extended coverage" designation (40% of time?).

Reception moves between 0 and 2 bars continuously so even if a call may come in on 2 it's lost before long. Verizon's remedy is to sell us yet another "better" phone (we've gone through three different phones already), and another "better" plan, resulting in a longer (and for Verizon "better") contract. Similar problems when traveling, but comparable with T-Mobile and Sprint in my experience. Verizon customer service is good, I'll give them that, but quality of reception is simply unacceptable in this area of Seattle and we're junking Verizon first chance we get.

Verizon is definattly the way to go. Read Consumer reports and see what they say about the companys. They say Verizon has the best coverage and customer service and they are dead on! Nextel is the worst they are about as good as taking your homephone around town, it just doesn't work!

Ignorantly I switched from a Tri-mode phone to an all digital phone when I took advantage of my new every two option in November. Since my switch I've had ZERO bars anywhere around my home office, when before this was a non-issue. Every call drops within seconds of taking the call, and when I attempt to call out I'm denied as the phone only detects the Sprint network. I've had the phone flashed and recently replaced to no avail. For business reasons I want to get a Treo, however Verizon insists I pay full retail ($520) so I'm thinking that paying the $175 cancellation fee and then signing up with Cingular may be my best option, as I will save $$ on the phone + Cingular has pretty stellar coverage in West Seattle.

I'm using the Motorola flip phone provided by Verizon and have tried other phones using the Verizon network from this same location. This has been the most frustrating experience I have ever had with cell phone usage. I'm down from Pacific Hwy. South in a valley area in Tukwila. I am lucky if I get half a bar. I've had hundreds of dropped calls and it's gotten silly like I'm using technology comparable to a couple of tin cans and a string. I've tried calling on T-Mobile from the same area and no problem. I imagine that this is the case with most carriers. This area is a void in the Verizon network which is too bad because I'm locked into another year of dropped calls.

I have never had a complaint with Verizon in Des Moines, anywhere in Washington state, or across the nation. I've called folks standing beside me, they being on T Mobile and ATT, and they frequently have crappy reception, even in their own backyards. I'm very thankful I didn't go with anything but Verizon. I also get reception when on Rainier. Being on the Nationwide Single Rate plan, I've had good reception in Alaska and Hawaii, near towns obviously, at no additional cost! I even have reception in Canada, but roaming charges kick in there, so the phone stays off.

Just switched to Verizon from AT&T Wireless. I get one bar inside the house, and calls drop so frequently I can't give up my landline. Maybe two bars outside. Somewhat better than AT&T (the other party generally couldn't hear me at all), but for so much more money I was hoping for a big upgrade.

Verizon is suffering from the lack of network capacity. They offer a fairly good system in the greater Seattle area but the system during peak times will not reliably switch your call to the next cell location while you are on the move. I have spoken to Verizon 9 times in 11 months on this issue. Finally got a senior technician from Sunnyvale, CA to admit the system is overloaded and that reps who tried to convince me my phone suddenly stopped working right or that there were network "switch" issues being worked on were full of it. I have no advice. You cannot depend on placing calls with Verizon in almost any dense part of Seattle during business hours (after hours they seem to go thru fine).

Verizon has no real reception in the south end of Seattle. Any neighborhood near the airport doesn't get good coverage. It's funny because there is a Verizon billboard on the highway near where there is a no reception zone saying that Verizon has the best coverage in the NW. And I laugh as I look at my phone that has no coverage.

Usually get one or 2 bars on Queen Anne. Sometimes phones fails to ring and I just get messages later. 70% of calls are clear 10% almost impossible to hear, and the rest in between. Happy with Verizon service and service is stronger in many parts of Seattle.

I get great reception if I'm outside, or hanging out a window. But I can't get a connection at all from inside my office (Sand Point) or inside hotels on business trips. Inside my apartment and places like malls, the connection is quite poor -- lots of static, lots of dropped and missed calls. Verizon claimed it was my phone causing the problems, and they did replace it for me, but my reception only improved marginally. My old cheap-end Nokia did fine in these same locations, under AT&T.
