Only get good reception in one corner of my living room. A couple of years ago they tried to put in a new cell tower at 80th and 8th, but the neighbors got an embarrassingly bad case of NIMBY. Now we all suffer.

Northwest side of 197th and Horizon View Park. Phone will ring, but reception is between 2 and 3 bars and consistent voice break-up makes conversation a constant "can you hear me now?". No. Revert to hard-wire. Looks like the closest tower is in Kenmore on Bothell Way. Line of sight is undoubtedly blocked. But I see no Cingular towers in Brier, Lynnwood, Edmonds... . hello?

Many other comments regarding receptiong of T-Mobile users may be due to their equipment. I have been using T-Mobile in West Seattle for over a year now and have very few dropped calls and excellent reception. I even use my cell phone as my primary modem to my laptop using their data services plan.

Have to go to the front of the house by the picture window to get a connection. Back yard is no good. Worse in foul weather. No signal in basement. Sprint PCS was a better experience.

Experience has been that there is crappy Sprint coverage in Ballard neighborhoods overall. Bah!

Poor signal / no signal and frequent dropped calls in east Cap Hill, particularly bad in and around my 2nd floor corner apt 17th at Mercer. My friend who works for Cingular says I should upgrade, that new phones work better with the new infrastructure. Is that the Kool Aid talking? Well, I'd guess "planned obsolesence" is part of the problem. She also suggested buying one of those cell phone antenna boosters (who knew!). If I can find a phone I like for cheap I'll try it, but I'm considering a switch to Verizon.

I recently switched my service from T-Mobile to Verizon. So far, I am not all that fond of it. I miss a constant clear signal that I could use anywhere I went in Seattle- i.e the basement of my house, the metro, the freeway, the park, in a tower downtown, in the bowels of the building where I work. I had fabulous call quality and clarity. I also felt like my calls connected a lot sooner. Overall, if you want to make calls and exchange texts, GSM service is the way to go. Verizon has good cust service but I notice they are more hype than not. T-Mobile at least is clear on their terms, charges, and will even show with their online coverage locater exactly where you will and won't get good service. No one else does that. I am honestly debating paying the cancellation charge and going back with T-Mobile. They, like other providers, keep expanding and getting better. Good work T-Mobile. Also, they have 1 year contracts! I love that!
