Reception moves between 0 and 2 bars continuously so even if a call may come in on 2 it's lost before long. Verizon's remedy is to sell us yet another "better" phone (we've gone through three different phones already), and another "better" plan, resulting in a longer (and for Verizon "better") contract. Similar problems when traveling, but comparable with T-Mobile and Sprint in my experience. Verizon customer service is good, I'll give them that, but quality of reception is simply unacceptable in this area of Seattle and we're junking Verizon first chance we get.

I switched service from Verizon to Cingular, paid my early termination fee and couldn't be happier (see previous post). And if you want beyond excellent service I reccomend buying your phone from Reuben at the West Seattle Junction Cingular Store - he does everything he can to create the best experience no matter what comes up. Yeah Cingular! - BTW: I have received 5 bars all over Seattle, Bellevue and all the way to and from Sun Valley, ID.

Verizon is definattly the way to go. Read Consumer reports and see what they say about the companys. They say Verizon has the best coverage and customer service and they are dead on! Nextel is the worst they are about as good as taking your homephone around town, it just doesn't work!

Ignorantly I switched from a Tri-mode phone to an all digital phone when I took advantage of my new every two option in November. Since my switch I've had ZERO bars anywhere around my home office, when before this was a non-issue. Every call drops within seconds of taking the call, and when I attempt to call out I'm denied as the phone only detects the Sprint network. I've had the phone flashed and recently replaced to no avail. For business reasons I want to get a Treo, however Verizon insists I pay full retail ($520) so I'm thinking that paying the $175 cancellation fee and then signing up with Cingular may be my best option, as I will save $$ on the phone + Cingular has pretty stellar coverage in West Seattle.

Reception in Belltown in and around my condo is poor. I often get dropped driving around the Seattle Center. Otherwise the reception around Seattle area is not bad.

I'm using the Motorola flip phone provided by Verizon and have tried other phones using the Verizon network from this same location. This has been the most frustrating experience I have ever had with cell phone usage. I'm down from Pacific Hwy. South in a valley area in Tukwila. I am lucky if I get half a bar. I've had hundreds of dropped calls and it's gotten silly like I'm using technology comparable to a couple of tin cans and a string. I've tried calling on T-Mobile from the same area and no problem. I imagine that this is the case with most carriers. This area is a void in the Verizon network which is too bad because I'm locked into another year of dropped calls.

I've been with T-Mobile on my Nokia 3650 for two years and have never had a problem anywhere in Seattle, the San Jose area, or in RI (the three places I most commonly travel). Before switching to T-Mobile I had Verizon and was living in Ballard. The service was awful, with spotty reception and constant static and warbling.

The reception on this phone ranges from no reception to full reception, depending on what mood it is in. I have come to the conclusion though that it is more the phone then the carrier, as I had another model with the same plan and it always worked flawlessly. Long story short, stay away from Motorola!

Vancouver, Bc, Seattle, WA 98116 Mon May 02, 2005

i was told when I switched service from T-Mobile to qwest that I would receive better reception. true, for within the city of seattle, BUT I went to vancouver, bc this weekend and had NO service at all. even T-Mobile had service in vancouver. i would never have service with these companies again! the back falls off the Kyocera and the battery falls out. qwest is now charging me 60 dollars to leave the contract after they told me their service would work in canada. b.s.
