It jumps back and forth between 1 and no bars. My wife has the same problem, also T-Mobile with her Motorola V300. We just bought a new house and can't use our phones! T-Mobile if you're watching this board, please help!

Reception throughout the UW campus, other than Red Square, is moderate to bad. I have more dropped calls walking through campus and Greek Row than anywhere else in Seattle. My recommendation: UW students should subscribe to a carrier other than Cingular.

Five bars, no joke. Sometimes it goes down to four, but never below three. I’m in a basement apartment just one block east of I-5, surrounded by bricks and concrete, and I get perfect reception in here. Previously I had used AT&T Wireless, which then became Cingular. The reception was never more than one bar, and usually cut out entirely right in the middle of a conversation. I got fed up with it. Capitol Hill seems to be a tricky area for cell phone coverage. I don’t know if Verizon will work two blocks away as well as it does here, but I’ve heard anecdotally that the company has better infrastructure in Seattle. Is that true? Beats me, but I do know that my phone works here at home, as well as Downtown, on the freeway, in the U-District, and in the parts of North Seattle where I can remember using it. By comparison, I had my Cingular / AT&T phone with me for two years, in the U-District, Wallingford, Wedgwood, and here on Capitol Hill, and I never got five-bar reception indoors. In Wedgwood and here on the Hill, the phone was almost useless. But if you’re thinking of switching to Verizon, get a different phone than I did. The model I’m using now, a generic CDM-8910, doesn’t have great volume. So even though the reception in here is perfect…I still can’t always hear it.

Reception here in the apartment building is just average on the 1st and 2nd floors, but it's better than my friends. They have no signal with "T-Mobile" and "Sprint".

Reception moves between 0 and 2 bars continuously so even if a call may come in on 2 it's lost before long. Verizon's remedy is to sell us yet another "better" phone (we've gone through three different phones already), and another "better" plan, resulting in a longer (and for Verizon "better") contract. Similar problems when traveling, but comparable with T-Mobile and Sprint in my experience. Verizon customer service is good, I'll give them that, but quality of reception is simply unacceptable in this area of Seattle and we're junking Verizon first chance we get.
